Who does it, who’s against it? It would be more for preservation of the cable. The ones that don’t get used this season but still see the elements. Or stakes you want to use again for multiple seasons. Let’s hear it.

Stainless cable would last longer. Youre in a drier climate being in Nevada i would think so things wont rust quite as fast. Wax would probably come off pretty fast driving in

I see no need to coat any type of earth anchor.

Where I trap rust is a serious issue. When I dip my traps the cables, chains, and anchors get dipped too. If the anchors get bad during season the anchor, chain or cable gets either dipped or rattle canned. The amount of traps I run I can't afford to replace cables all the time.

It wouldn't hurt anything, but unless you do something to remove the lubricant that already exists on the inner strands of cable, (like boiling the cable) they will last for many many years of trouble free service. If you boil traps and the cables are attached, I'd go ahead and wax them with traps too. Like I said it won't hurt them to wax them.

Will the oil between the strands of cable contaminate your trap wax pot?

United we stand.

I'd have to say no, I don't think that little would hurt a thing. I've caught all the animals I have ever snared in cables, for 40 years, without removing any oils from them. It doesn't effect them at all in my experience.

I am not sure waxing them is worth the trouble, but I throw mine in the boiling pot with the traps and they seem to show very little rust.

I wax mine.

If you have caustic/alkali soil types I’ve seen aluminum ferrules eaten alive in short time and cable that looked really iffy in pretty short time periods as well.

Wax offers a small layer of protection and buys time.

Yep I wax mine, use the up to 3 years.
Just leave them, trap same area year after year.
Just add a new one when I feel it's time.

Still use rebar in new areas, if it turns into be a good area.
I than put anchors in when pulling.

Let me sugar coat this

I appreciate all the info. Upon further overthinking (its my specialty) Ive decided not to wax my cabled earth anchors.

I have wolf fangs on cable and superstakes on chain. The wolf fangs are cheap enough where i can just cut n go when pulling traps. no sense in waxing some brand new cable which will only see use one year.
