I've used bait shrimp in pockets and had really good luck.

Half a muskrat works great, I’ve used cheap tuna in oil as well as bait shrimp as well.

TrapperE yes. Also talk to bait shops and see if they will save dead minnows for you. Jim
Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

TrapperE, we have Hyvee grocery stores in this area but I’m sure other stores have this too. In frozen food section I found a bag of whole frozen smelt. I don’t know what they cost now but used to be about $5 for a 3lb bag and they are basically large minnows gutted and frozen. One bag makes a whole lot of mink and coon sets. Sometimes when scrounging for bait you have to get a little creative. Jim
