Many thanks to the forum members who provided insight and advice. Camp Bridger 2024 is in the books. I left home on October 1 and returned yesterday. Planned on staying the entire month, but two early snows and calling for more Monday thru Weds chased this flat lander out of the high desert. That country is quite rugged, beautiful and not the place to play in on slimy, wet roads.. Wow they get bad and quick!! I spent 24 days exploring the Owyhee country from the Brunneau River to Castleford. The Diamond desert will always hold a special place in my memories and thoughts. You can flat get away from folks back in there. One of God's special creations in my opinion.

i tried to play modern day mountain man as much as I could, camped in Grand Island, NE and Green River, WY on the way out. Pitched camp in the Jarbidge River canyon on the 3rd.. Packed up and headed home on the 25th. Now I'm sure Old Gabe would have made fun of me for my fancy tents, sleeping cot, wood stove and buddy heater, but I'd bet we would have fought over it when it was bed time!! I didn't make it over to the Owyhee River, got about 2/3 of the way there thru the bottom side in Nevada and chickened out. I didn't have an extra fuel can in the buggy that day and I allowed discretion to overcome valor (or stupidity!) That is some out of the way country. I wanted to head over to the Bull Gap camp and spend some time where the Claude Dallas tragedy happened. I vividly recall Parker Dozhier's articles in the trapper back in the day when all that happened.

I bathed in the Jarbidge River, cooked over the campfire or camp stove every day, Went to town as little as I could get by with - Finally when the weather got too cold I had to go down to Jarbidge nevada and get a couple of showers, best $10 I ever spent at the Outdoor Inn.. Washed Clothes there twice as well. Place is an absolute gem in the middle of nowhere, literally!!

I searched dilligently for a wolf track or any sign, but came up dry- I saw zero sign.. Hunted mule deer a bit and shot a small muley buck, put a few sets out for Coyotes and had a small bit of success. Took things slow and steady, dealt with some incredibly rough country to get around even in a buggy! Had two early snows that really showed me how ignorant I am of Desert trapping!! One of my bucket list items done and checked off. here are a few pics and videos from the trip - Have a bunch of videos, but limited storage space to share them.. FWIW.

Ready to roll out!

Great time there indeed, thanks for sharing. This is trapperman.com that I really enjoy seeing, hearing others adventures that I may learn even if I don't ever get to that place.

Way to go Larry! Glad you had the opportunity to do the bucket list thing. That country sounds incredible; like you said those trappers/hunters were some tough sons of guns.
What's next on the list? How spending a night on the south side of chi-town....without a gun.....lol

Thanks for the kind words Gents.. Was truly a trip of dreams for me.. to think of how tough those old timers were is unbelievable. I had all the modern amenities and had some awful tough days, can't imagine it..

Mchewk.. NO!!

I'd like to do a south Texas trip in about February.. Be a great thing to do for a month I believe.. And no Coyote skinning!!!
