Some were asking about my homemade flotation strips on my 14 foot John boat. They are 4 inches thick and 5 inches high, and 10 ft long. The boat is only 32 inches wide on the bottom so these really help with side to side stability when climbing in and out trapping.
I glued 2 inch by 8 ft. styrofoam strips together, cut and used a belt sander to make desired shape, than wrapped them with 4 inch duct tape. I positioned them just below the extruded rib on outside putting them about 2 inches above bottom of boat.
10 foot strips of heavy plastic lawn edging is on outside face for protection. The leading edge is angle cut and overlapped with a pc. of 6 inch alum.facia cut and bent to shape. I used 5/16 x 5 inch hex bolts with large washers to fasten strips along with spray foam to fasten them to boat.
On the inside I used rubber washers with silicone caulk behind the nut or they will leak. Silicone caulk, liquid nails, and spray foam are your friend in this process. Total cost wasn't over 80$ . As a side note I did have to raise my trailer bunks so boat would clear fenders now that it is wider. Hope this helps
