I just picked up a dozen of these and they are STOUT. Gonna run em along side my Bridger #9’s and Duke 850’s. They ought to be hammers.

Question - they’re powder coated but I’ll still need to dye my chain and drags. All good just to toss em in the witches brew?

I bought some for this season also. They are very well made. I dipped my chains in a mixture of 1/2 acetone and 1/2 rustoleum. I plan to boil them when the time comes. Water boils at 212 F. The powder coating is cured at a much high temp, therefore I do not think there will be an issue with them in boiling water.

I have some of the No BS traps that are coated. They go into the dye boil and get waxed. Scraping and burning the wax off of the pan/jaw engagement points is mandatory.

Did you get them with the bigger springs. I have both the regular ones and the ones with bigger springs. The bigger springs are way stronger then the little ones . Especially for coming up through the snow . I use a ton of Ak 9 but the bs traps are pretty nice I feel the pan is a little to big and might cut mine down some . Will post a pic of difference tomorrow.

I like my no BS. They used to offer a white treatment on them, I wish they still did

If you order directly from them, you can order them powder coated white. I’m not sure how it will hold up over time, but they sure do look nice right now.

As far as bigger springs - I don’t know which springs I have, but I can’t imagine anything with stronger springs. These are very stiff.

Team V - I saw your impressive number of wolves last season. Were some caught with the wolf extremes? What are your overall thoughts on them?

Lots were snared but I think 9 were caught in foot holds mostly AK 9s I was only running 4 bs traps last year. This year I will be running 14 bs traps I picked up from a friend getting out of trapping . I have caught multiple wolves in bs traps over the years and seem to work pretty good always high catch and strong . I run 24 9s so I put them out first just because they take a different setter then the BS traps. You can set a 9 with the BS setter but it is a scary time . This year I am going to work on my snare game a little more .[Linked Image]

What a great haul!

Are you setting all wolf sets and incentally catching wolverine and lynx in your wolf sets?

Or do you specifically set for gulo and cats too?

We set it all . We run one line that is 118 miles and a 56 mile one all on snow go’s . When cats are down we don’t set for them same with marten. Most Wolverine are caught in wolf gear . But do set for them . We have found that once the wolves move through the Wolverine are right behind them it seem I think the follow the wolves and pick up the scraps.

The early NO BS wolf traps were modified TS-85's, I believe. Are the new versions the same, with bigger springs, or are the jaws also a new addition?

Just doing what I want now.

It is not a modified TS-85. It is built much heavier than that. The ts-85 has much lighter jaws. The jaw geometry might be the same or similar.

I've never seen one with the smaller springs, that is interesting. I thought they all had TS-85 springs. They are their own trap, but very similar to the TS-85. So close that I often call them a modified TS-85, although the only actual same parts I believe are the springs. The jaws are much stouter on a NO-BS, same geometry but I'm not sure that you can mount NO-BS jaws on a TS85. I've thought about trying it to replace some bent up jaws on my TS85s, but since I didn't have any NO BS jaws around I've always managed to straighten the TS85 ones.
While I like the stouter jaws on the NO-BS, one advantage of the lighter jaws is if a large hooved critter manages to get caught in them they will bend the jaws and self release, relieving you of the necessity to release them. Never had a wolf bend the TS-85 jaws.

By the way I have always made my own setters, the pair I made years ago for a wolf trap I made fit and will set both the Duke 850s and the AK 9s, but I have to carry a seperate pair to set the TS85 and/or NO-BS. Bernie in North Idaho makes a pair of setters that will set all of them as well as most any other wolf traps, Bridger 9, CDR, Bridger 5, MB750, etc.
