Let him figure it out. My older brother gutted the first deer I shot with bow. Showed me how to do it I was 12 think he was 15?? My old man did the second one I shot with gun at 13. Said watch this only showing you once. After that I was on my own and got talked threw the next one just a bit. Then actually caught on quick enough turned into where I was showing others. Actually did several for dad help my younger brother do his first one. So yeah if them boy seen it done they will figure it out. Might have to clean up the edges point out some things. But let learn.

The worst guys to work with are the ones who didn't have a dad, second worse are the guys who's dad did everything. Let him prove He's a man and can handle himself. My opinion is if you don't give boys a shot to do things like this to prove themselves they look for other more unruly ways to express their desire to be men. Yep, he will get it done.

small 10 point. he is happy so I'm happy. he gas passed about 36 this year and several small bucks. He has seen some very nice ones so I was surprised he stick this one that's about the same or smaller than his last few especially when I'm not home. I learned how to gut deer from a rented vhs and did my first outing job on one of my cousins so it was lighter to get the 1/2 mile to the road. I didn't have someone walking me through it for years and standing over me first guidance then take issues with my first on my own. that said it's cool this morning but warming up fast so I'm heading home ti be sure it gets on ice. yes beef is cheaper if you figure gas and 15.5 hrs of 43 an hour. my main issue is I told them not to shoot anything when I'm not home unless it's a big one because i figure I would end up missing work over it so please only shoot a very nice one. It may go back to no hinting when im not home. If you cant get it taken care of yourself. . But that's his buck for the year unless I find a spot and take then back to KY.. but I only have places for youth hunts down there so it's not likely he's gutting it now with my wife helping. I'm on my way home to ensure it gets on ice before it spoils. then back to work either for the last few hours of this shift or leave at 1 am to go in early at 3. should make another nice skull mount the boy is running out of wall space. That's his 20th 2nd this season he didn't let walk and he is 14. Will be stacking doe's on my next 2 weeks off it appears. 12 year old has shot 3 anttlerless this season and still has his buck tag. He is not as into hunting as his brother and doesn't let as many walk. He is at 19 deer now. Last season this time the both had their buck and 3 an 4 doe. they were about done before gun season came in. The youngest did shoot a doe during gun bringing their total up to 5 each 4 doe and each with an 8 point. So there about 50% of last year at this point. It really stinks not being there but it's nice they get to hunt every single day if they want now they are getting bigger and can hunt alone. edit. he said it's a 10 point I can't see it or tell. it doesn't matter as long as he is happy with it. I was just really hoping he shot that 150 or 170 they have seeing as hard as he has been hunting. Going to learn a lesson when they do walk by him later and he has no tag left.

I'm not telling you what to do, but I'm sure he's capable. let him get through it, even if it's not pretty, you should see it after you eat it!, lol
I don't even gut them anymore, just hoist em up where you found it, assuming you have trees, skin and bone it out right there, let the meat cool and get it into a cooler with ice, you can finish braking it down further any time....If you can gut, skin and cut up a rabbit you can do a deer.....
I realize you want to be there to share the experience, but he'll learn quicker doing it himself....it's just a deer after all.

If they are old enough to hunt alone, they are old enough to take care of it. If not they should not be hunting alone.

Why did you head home?
let him do it Mostly just in case, and safe I figured it's gutted and in the truck heading to the barn before him home so stopped for a water and some ice not in as big of a hurry now. To be honest it's hard to realize they are growing up and capable of doing what they can. heck I'm looking up at my oldest that's the primary living to hunt trap and fish one. yet when he called I was seeing him about 9 In my mind. Heck I can miss a day of work. I'm over 60 hrs for 52 weeks already if I don't work another hour this years. Me coming home takes the stress off my wife working about it getting on ice soon enough. heck you never know if I get it done fast enough I may go the the gym with her today. Any time with my wife is a winner.

I was hoping he would be done and on ice before you made it home. Just for his confidence on the next one.
Don't get your feelings hurt in the next few years when he tells you to call him when you shoot one so he can take care of it for you so you don't hurt your back or something. Lol

Providence Farm- Tell him nice job. Nothing wrong with that buck. 70% or more of SD deer hunters would have had lead flying at it. You people that get to gun hunt antlers in your home counties every year don't know what a good deal you have. I was hoping he would be done and on ice before you made it home. nvwrangler- You must hunt a lot of big game when its still warm out. The only thing I've ever cut up and put on ice are some antelope and a youth deer hunt one time. Rifle deer in November, and most animals come home field dressed but basically whole besides that. I've never had meat go bad coming home that way in November. The trick for late season deer hunting (in December) is don't let the field dressed animal freeze before you skin it. If that happens, its a real pain to get the work done.

If those boys have killed the number of deer you say they have, then they should know by now how to handle the responsibilities that come along with it. Maybe it's time for ol' Dad to cut the cord and let them grow up. That is a dandy deer; please tell him congratulations!

If that happens, its a real pain to get the work done. We hunt 5 minutes from my parents place where our skinning pole is. So we dont field dress them. Hang them, skin, remove front quarters, then backstraps, lower and cut open just enough to reach in and get tenderloins, remlve rear quarters. Then carcass into a wheel barrow and rolled away and left for the coyotes and buzzards.

He saw it go down about 60 yards out. Now I'm waiting to find out if I need to leave work to help get him broke down or not. Will take me 2.5 hrs to get home. and both the wife and boy said the only part they were questioning doing was gutting. He just gutted and debunked and quarter his last one with me besid him giving reminders so I think he should be fine. it's loading it and getting the hide off I'm more concerned about then doing. but if I head home they should have that done before I get there. So what to do I did a video on gutting last year let me know if I should email it to them. I am not ready to show it on youtube or anything but it is a fairly good video witht he exception of my brother and cousin trying to get me to crack up the whole time. edit : then I looked down and looks like they got it all figured out congrats
