Bad idea? I have some 3 and 4 dbl longs that I’m going to use for beaver. Would it help with wring outs on front foot catches? Springs are extra strong (helper springs added).

What helps more on the front foot thing is jacking up the tension and countersinking the trap so the beaver is falling into the trap and burying itself up to the shoulder. That.

So, It sounds like you haven't used them yet. More swivels will help with reducing wring offs. The other thing is are you going to use some type of slide wire. If so, use a stop on the slide system so the beaver can't reach the stake and get tangled up around the stake.

In my opinion It's large heavy traps that cause wring offs on a front foot caught beaver. It's the same with those fragile front feet on a grey fox. Too big of a heavy trap will cause more damage just because of the weight. I've caught a few beaver by a front font foot in 1 1/2 coils set for rats and mink and never had any wring offs. But I have had a few wring offs when using a # 5 sized trap. And #5 long springs make It worse due to the weight and swiveling issues.

Thew heavy trap thing makes a lot of sense. I've seen it in coyotes and gray fox. I'll be using 1/8" 7x7 for a drowning cable. I'll be sure to add the stop. Thanks Beav!
