Bad idea? I have some 3 and 4 dbl longs that I’m going to use for beaver. Would it help with wring outs on front foot catches? Springs are extra strong (helper springs added).

If you're having wring outs, target back foot or get them under the water.

What helps more on the front foot thing is jacking up the tension and countersinking the trap so the beaver is falling into the trap and burying itself up to the shoulder.

So, It sounds like you haven't used them yet. More swivels will help with reducing wring offs.
The other thing is are you going to use some type of slide wire. If so, use a stop on the slide system so the beaver can't reach the stake and get tangled up around the stake.

Weak traps and traps that have a small jaw spread will cause alot of wringoffs if not drowned immediately

In my opinion It's large heavy traps that cause wring offs on a front foot caught beaver. It's the same with those fragile front feet on a grey fox. Too big of a heavy trap will cause more damage just because of the weight.
I've caught a few beaver by a front font foot in 1 1/2 coils set for rats and mink and never had any wring offs. But I have had a few wring offs when using a # 5 sized trap. And #5 long springs make It worse due to the weight and swiveling issues.

Correct. Only had experience with snares and 330's. Thew heavy trap thing makes a lot of sense. I've seen it in coyotes and gray fox.

I'll be using 1/8" 7x7 for a drowning cable. I'll be sure to add the stop. Thanks Beav!

I've never used laminated traps for beaver, and don't see an advantage for it. Some say it causes pullouts, but like I said, I've no experience. If you send those beaver down a slide wire to deep water you won't have a problem with wring outs on front foot caught beaver. I usually target front feet on beaver because it doesn't take near as deep of water to drown one with a front foot, and a lot of our beaver live in little streams with fairly shallow water.

In water deep enough for front foot, but not deep enough for back foot, I target back foot. A good back foot catch will be waiting for you to dispatch. A front foot catch will be waiting also, tail up.

All the Beaver I have caught in footholds have been with a laminated trap. Never had any problems. I rarely use drowning sets.
