If you have groundhog holes in the fields that's the best location I know of to catch red fox
The ones on the highest part of the field are typically the best for me

What happened to the 1000 acres u got permission on this summer? One area i think trappers, especially new trappers short change them is in the area of getting permission on GOOD ground. Food for thought for the future

I'll second the notion on the farm pond dams as crossovers, plus the pond itself. Plus drainages above and below.

Was up at the farm a few weeks back checking on this pond to confirm that the beavers that had been cutting down trees had moved on (they had). In the process, began to notice all the game trails around the pond, including the one you are looking at. Without elaborating too deep, having given it some thought, can imagine where I could place as many as 2 dozen traps just in field of view you see and run a good chance of catching coyotes, bobcat, coon, possum, likely otter and maybe a mink, plus barn cats and neighbor's dogs. Not every trap would catch something, but every trap might. The place is alive with trails and sign.

I have caught fox and coyotes in the woods. Especially fox. If there are logging roads and/or ATV trails through the woods... set 'em up.

Tip:
Set more traps. Put sets at every location.

You can't set a 200 acre property heavy enough to spook a coyote. Those coyotes don't spend enough time there to spook away from a dirthole or flat set at a bunch of locations.

When they pass thru the property, they'll encounter one or more of your sets.

I don't set woods for coyotes because I hate the possums, coons and deer that come along with them and because we have a lot of open country.

Sometimes opportunity pops up where you least expect it. Take this mud hole for example.......maybe 4' x 6' total. Inch or 2 deep.

[Linked Image]

That is just a rutted up mud hole in the barn lot across the road. Full of water now as we got quarter inch of rain last night. Prior to that, yesterday......it was mud bottomed hole.........completely covered in coon tracks. There are maybe 3 or 4 of those holes in a 200 yard stretch of field road and all of them get heavy coon traffic. Coyotes use the same field road.

All of it hidden in plain open sight.

If you have a blend of woods and open ground you have edges. I catch more fur on the edges than I do in either terrain by far.

Good luck the critters will show you what is producing and what isn't.

If you are still in school you won’t have enough time or traps to make enough sets to cover 2,3,4 hundred acres. For time purposes trap sections at a time. Put your sets close together. If you come across sign while checking your traps add another set. Look for scat tracks hair on barb wire ect. If you have a briar patch varmits will circle it. But remember they have to get to it. Look for travel lanes

You sure can catch coyotes in the woods, alot of good tips here , i know alot of trappers from Ky and Tenn that can do it, just remember you got to pick up the trash to find a treasure. comes with the territory.
