Carl Emil Pettersson, a Swedish sailor, found himself shipwrecked on Tabar Island in 1904, a remote place in Papua New Guinea, known for its inhabitants' cannibalistic practices. Upon his capture, Pettersson was taken to the island's king, where he faced a perilous fate. However, the king's daughter, Princess Singdo, fell in love with him, which ultimately saved his life. This unexpected turn of events led to a marriage between Pettersson and Singdo, blending his Scandinavian heritage with the island's traditions.
Over the years, Pettersson and Singdo had nine children, and Pettersson gradually became an integral part of the island community. When the king passed away, Pettersson, now fully accepted and respected by the islanders, ascended to the throne. As king, he ruled Tabar Island, embodying a unique fusion of European and indigenous leadership. His story became legendary, illustrating an extraordinary tale of survival, love, and cultural integration in one of the most remote corners of the world.

He likely was a giant of a man compared to the the tiny Papuan cannibals.

Interesting story and photo.

It's not always about catching fish. That's what people who don't catch fish usually say.

He looks delicious. Must of been a lot of disappointed cannibals after he winked at the princess.

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!
