Quick question, we have had bout 6 days of snow but marten trapping doesn't open for a month. If I go out now scouting for tracks is it safe to say they'll still be in the area when season opens next month or do they move around a good amount?
Thanks

Ya can't miss fur if yur traps are out somewhere.
Or so I've been told.

Depends on the food source. But I'm betting they will still be in the area.

It depends.
Right now the juveniles will be dispersing along identifiable travel corridors.
This dispersal will drop off first part of december from my experience. If the track is from dispersing juveniles they wont be back.Juvenile marten in late fall can cover tremendous amount of territory in unfragmented habitat.
If the tracks you seen are in core marten habitat from a resident marten they will still be around and will find your trap if you have a good sized chunk of bait.
Taking out resident marten can open up opportunity for a dispersing juvenile to survive winter.

Around here we have small pockets of marten, I seem to catch a few in the same locations every year I trap them. Then I can have miles of empty traps. I sure with the hot spots were closer together. I do always remember where I see tracks and set them up.

Your hotspots are on the dispersal routes.
Learn to identify those and you can eliminate a lot of unproductive sets.
