well shot it 3 times 30 yards 6-inch round bullseye. Sitting resting elbow on my knee. Does kick like a mule for sure. No problems. Not a good pic but 1st at 6, 2nd at 1 and 3rd at 10. Not to bad. Surely will kill a deer. Guess I will be out there. THANKS

There is something romantic about killing a deer with old iron. You'll feel what I'm talking about once you do it.
I have all kinds of high falutin rifles and shotguns which I have killed a bunch deer with. None of them tripped my trigger like when I killed a buck with Grandpa's 1935 single shot 20 gauge.
Thinking all of this through, I am going out with that old piece opening day.

if you needed to borrow a gun at our deer camp in years past Uncle bills Stevens bolt action 20 was the gun that got handed out. he got it when he was 12 in about 1952
I think we determined the last time anyone got a deer with it was uncle Bob 12 years go , the deer was about going to run him over if he didn't shoot it , uncle Bob also only has one eye he got it done at about 10 yards.

uncle Bob had his own gun till his good for nothing son borrowed it and sold it to feed his addiction. he is 87 I think so he just borrows a gun since that happened probably 27 years ago.
now he borrows one of my 20ga shotguns since Uncle Bill passed.

I like single shots, in fact I am hunting right now with a Tikka 3 without a clip; lost it. I thought about it today, of scores of big game animals that I've killed, I've never needed a quick follow-up shot, I've missed one deer, and a quick follow up wouldn't have been possible anyway.

You didn't mention it, but I'm picturing that you'te using an old break open single shot.
