Found some odd size stretchers that must be for skunk or opossum...
About a #2 or #3
Used sandpaper then steel wool.
Any more I can do to clean them....

Once you’ve gotten cleaned up, I’d give them a coating of WD40 or vegetable oil or something to prevent from rusting again. Just a light coat. Or I suppose you could paint them.

Don’t use too much grease. If you are putting up raccoon, skunk, possum - all of which are stretched fur in - you want to avoid getting grease on the fur. Those pelts are greasy enough as it is.

I always used a wire brush wheel on my grinder to clean rusty stretchers, I then lightly sprayed a cloth with WD-40 and wiped the stretcher.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Throw them away and use wood stretchers.

Steel wool, some sand paper, then oil. Usually only five minutes per stretcher.

Did 15 dozen this summer, they are like new now

So I gotta ask what is the problem with a little rust?
Rather have that than an oily stretcher.

I don't really have this problem but has anyone thought a quick wipe of linseed oil when you are doing tool handles and such?

it dries, seals , won't come off on the fur and you already have a rag wet with it when you finish shovel handles and such.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I did use WD 40 on a rag to save them.
I did 3 and I'll do 3 more the rest are to out of shape.
These stretchers have more of a point to the top ,do they still use that shape in this market?

Rust eats holes in the leather, when it comes back from the dresser the leather side is full of holes where the rust touched the raw skin. Coyotes and fox are the worst, coons not bad because they are leather out. Trap NH gave good advice, throw them out and use wood.

You can bend them so they are not pointy. Grab up by the head end and pull apart till they look like they should.
