.....pretty obvious some of y'all have never had to deal with someone passing out due to too many energy drinks/ soda ....
And control..... Mkay suuuuureeeee. So if a football coach sees a kid not drinking water and acting weird ...they should just not say anything and let the kid fall out and possibly screw themselves up for life , because yeah heat exhaustion along with high levels of caffeine can both kill or seriously mess somone up, they should just stand there and watch and try not to intervene.

Skipping the wisdom, or morality: Personal rights take priority over government, and employer. As long as it is legal, and endangering no one, it is entirely up to the individual.
On private property, like your boat, rules can be implemented if necessary. Like no smoking at night while on "watch" duty. Energy drinks, and the like, not so much.
You talk like Wolfdog is trying to force the kid to not do the things he is doing. Where as the truth is he's just trying educate and persuade, as a friend, the kid so he'll make smarter choices on his own. Thus he's asking for help on how to approach this, since he obviously cares about the kid and doesn't like to see him harming himself with the crap he is doing. Like seriously I didnt even ask for advice on how to stop him or anything. Folks acting like I'm stomping on his neck or something to keep him from voting or take his rights away because I give two (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) about inexperienced kid ( this is his first job btw , heck still lives with his parents) enough to worry about him. And I've had to deal with people who have had problems due to these drinks and stuff . Would prefer him not. Be another Idk I was raised around men who'd pull you to the side and try and knock some sense in you head if you where goin down the wrong path. Again if showing concern and trying to stop something bad before it happens is some kinda liberal ideology like upstate said fine . Least when everyone is whining about the world goin to crap and my /the next generation not being worth anything I can say I legit actually tried to make it a lil better and not just mind my own business till stuff got bad Then again some of y'all where upset I was taking my nephew out and trying to get him in the woods and be a good role model instead of his dad who works too much to do it so...

The kid doesn't meet your standards. But then, you didn't hire him. Get used to it. Someone wants/needs him onboard.

when you work small crew vs big corp you are going to get a lot closer to people you work with especially when you are weeks on
try and help him , just don't get too invested in him actually taking your advice.

a lot of the advice you got here was probably directed a lot more at traditional work environments where people are there for 8-10-12 hours and gone and there will be a new guy to take the last ones place in a few months any way.

The devil made ya do it Trapperkeck!
Wolfie some ppl are barely affected by those things. They are like a swig of coffee to me. My boy who is your age gets heart flutters from 1/2 of an energy drink so he won't go near them.

I should do like 160 but I ain't no quitter! I run on caffeine, Copenhagen, and cheap cigars.
Exactly! I think it has to do with metabolism. If you have a high metabolism, energy drinks may not be for you. If you don't, you can probably drink several and go right to sleep half an hour later.

If you don't, you can probably drink several and go right to sleep half an hour later.that might actually be , becoming lethargic from overly high blood sugar , when you can't produce the insulin to process the sugar you get very tired. so the caffeine doesn't seem to effect you might be that you are shutting down your pancreas and you don't notice it

lots of opinions and here is mine
If this is a performance problem such as he is on his phone instead of working give him a verbal warning. Next time report him.

If he is passing out on shift- call in a medevac asap.

If he just doesn't take advice (even when he asks for it) I'd suggest keepin it in your own lane. Us older folks see quite a bit of that out of the 20 somethings.

You got a good heart worrying about the kid. But we all have free agency to make our own bad choices. If you've already explained how his habits are destroying his health and possibly endangering coworkers several times, and in different ways, continuing to do it is just nagging that will not help either of you. If he is creating hazards tell the Cap and let him deal with it.

The recent energy drink craze will be the cause of type two diabetes in many of this generation. You can't keep slamming your system with those high doses of sugar without overwhelming your pancreas leading to insulin resistance in all your tissues and diabetes. If you're drinking any sugary drinks (including sodas), at the very least, eat a high protein snack (nuts, jerky, cheese stick etc.) with them to lower the glycemic index. Am I nagging ?

I don't know what the motivation is. I do think it sounds more like control than concern.Sounds a lot like the mandatory helmet laws crew in reverse.

.....pretty obvious some of y'all have never had to deal with someone passing out due to too many energy drinks/ soda ....If that happened on duty, the captain either knows about it, or needs to have been told...If nothing was done you have a lot more problems than just a deck hand. That should have been addressed by superior officers immediately.
