I use electrical box knockouts for that too.

I used wood paint stir stick cut down for years and I love it … it doesn’t seem to slip or shift when the trap is fired .. just give a tap to help dent the position I want into the soft wood

Tape maybe?

No thats just electrical tape wrapped tight around it so rust doest ruin the fur… I have a plastic container for bait so the blood doesn’t ruin the white fur and I got tired of mice cleaning it out in one night so I recessed 1/4 hardware cloth boxes work amazing after you clear out 2 dozen mice 😂

Gregory Ross on Youtube has some good mods for these traps as well.

one of the ytubers has drilled some holes and uses a spike to go across the strike bar when setting the trap, then when set pulls the spike out

hard to explain but how i set rat traps it is impossible for me to get caught, hold it by the back and pull back the kill bar then hold it with your thumb on the back hand and then hold the killbar tight enough so it wont slip then get the pan set and pull back your hand that was in the kill area and slowly let go. if you let some pressure get on the dog then it will hold the pan even if you holding on to the kill bar

Ditto TrapperE. And also put the trap in place with pan away from your hand, so if it does go off unexpectedly you only get hit by the dog.
