Anyone ever go about making their own wild cat cartridge up ? If so how hard is it as far as getting a reamer designed and built ? Pretty sure dies aren't too much of a problem after you get the reamer

Your gonna need your big checkbook if its a one of a kind. If your planning on using an existing cartridge for brass then resizing or fire forming it, its very possibly already been done. What are you hoping your new cartridge will do that existing cartridges will not?

I did one using a parent case that just had to be necked down. It wasn't too bad. My partner did a couple that used a parent case but required cutting and re sizing. It took very detailed drawings to have the reamers made and it took a while to get a set of forming dies and sizing dies made. they were pretty pricey. If you contact PTG you would be surprised at what they already have reamers for.

We made a .358 WSSM to qualify for handgun cartridge requirements in Indiana for a rifle before we had a rifle season here. I have had a few reamers made and you can also rent them. Latest was a 20 BR from a 6 BR brass.

Helped a coworker build a 45-70 shortened to 1.8" to meet southern Michigan's regs before the 450 Bushmaster became a thing.

Some of it we were able to order custom, some of it we had to cobble together to get it done.

I have used 4D Reamer rental in the past for reamers. Built several rifles in Ackley and Gibbs cartridges. They have a lot of oddball stuff. May look there and find something similar to what you need.

See if you can find a copy of Ken Howells' book on designing and fireforming wildcat cartridges. Has drawings/specs on many of the wildcats.

Pretty much anything I thought of has already been done. I have several Ackley types.

I'm looking forward to the 220 Swift Wolfdog Improved. A 50 grain Hornady in front of a 8mm Rem traveling at 8000 fps. Coyotes in the next county have no chance.

But what about the optics when you're zeroed in at 2000 yards.

Just messing with you. Keep searching.

Pete

According to the guys over on accurate someone has made what I want .. buuutt I can't find out who and where to get the reamer

All it is is a .22 TCM case necked down and tweaked for .20 or .17 cal. Would be a lie to make your own brass from .223 basically the same way you do .300blk. only dela is I'd like it tweaked so you dot. Need to neck turn like I have to right now smirk which honestly isn't that bad the lil neck turning deal I got was like $100 takes maybe 30sec per case but eeghhhh.

Getting my first custom barrel spun up right now and hoping if I can find a reamer or get one made I could possibly get the same guy to make the barrels.

Also still planning on getting into swaging .17 cal heavy bullets but ugh that down the road
