What variety?

I typically don't care for the bigguns as it's been my experience varieties that throw bigguns are either a few very big roots or all over the map of big and small ones. I like lots of consistent medium baking size.

I have no idea. typically she buys some at the store and makes starts off of them. These slips were given to her by a friend. There is also a bucket average 1 lb ones in it as well. These 3 were just really big and not in the bucket.

They are. Sweet potatoes are a great potato for low carb meals.

My wife has been type 1 diabetic for 47 years Sweet potatoes are one of the few treats she gets. Boil slice then put in pan with SF maple syrup. Bake add SF cool whip and eat. Makes the house smell delicious

Make potato salad with them, it's fantastic, creamy smooth, very good. Oh, and sweet potato pie!

I quit baking them years ago. Steaming is the way to go. Quicker and juicier.

3 lbs are babies in these parts. Our local nursery will special order sweet potato plants but it’s a 25 plant minimum because they don’t stock them regularly. This year dad said he didn’t want to mess with that many so I cut eyes and sprouts off last years extras like we would seed potatoes. Last year we had close to 3 bushel baskets from 25 plants. One was the size of my head, at 10 lbs. many in the 5-7 range. This year we topped that. We both stood there silent just staring at the beast after we pulled the dirt away. Dad drove it around in the truck all week to show it off like he killed a 200” deer .

I prefer the bigger ones to eat. Only need to clean one to feed the family, and believe it or not they’re aren’t fibrous or stringy. Just a little tough to cut all the way through

Often they are on my plate ( assuming baked) like a normal potato with butter and cinnamon. Other times cubed I'm a mix of other roots like beets, radishes, and turnups cooked in cast iron skillets with lid. ( not my favorite but not horrible I always eat what she makes and what's on my plate.)


The boys didn't get them all dug yet they must have got board and quit before getting finished from what my wife said. . I didn't do much when I finally got home from work yesterday didn't even go outside at all. Pet the dogs, ate talked with the family then a 3 hr nap, got up ate and talked with the 14 year old( girl issues) then back to bed. I was wiped out. had been up over 40 hrs at that point since I didn't sleep at between 16hr shift after hearing about my brother inlaws drama. I'm getting older and can't handle not sleeping as well as I used to. I need 3 or 4 hours in 24 to function OK now.

Think I'm going to go kill a few hours in a deer stand this morning and watch squirrel and deer walk by then work on finishing out some more of my daughter's building. Hopefully it will be a productive day. Some woods time should help after to much time spent in industrial location. But I'm not going to shoot anything. Last year had a buck bigger than I have ever killed at 30 yards for 3 min and I just watched him. I thought about shooting him but didn't. So don't know why I'm even going to take a x bow.
