Hello All,
Noticed some unusual bark damage about 4-7 feet up the trunk of a mature blue cedar tree in my yard.
Anyone have any ideas as to what critter might have done this?
I attached a picture.
Thanks,
Doug Lee

Bear would be my guess as well. They love to mark telephone poles too.

You see junipers (locals call cedars) that look like that near bear dens around here . They strip the bark for bedding. I doubt you have a den near your yard though LOL.

United we stand.

Hello All,
Thanks for the input, we do have bear in the area. . .
We've lived here for 42 years, have never see/noticed any cedar tree trunk roughed up like that...
This photo is a shot of a young bear in my neighbors back yard . . .this past summer!
Thought it might be coon related ???
Thanks again
Doug Lee
