Welp the guys said they wanted shepherds pie today for lunch. Neve rmade the stuff and honestly never been a fan of it. Looks to be just cooked ground meat veggies and mashed potatoes on top....
Anyhow how's everyone prefer to do it ? Already have a few pounds of ground meat about thawed out

I make several per year. I use ground mutton from our flock of sheep. I use my veggies I raise. corn, peas, carrots, onions and green beans. I put rosemary, thyme, some worchester sauce and garlic in mine. Some pepper and minimal salt. The potatoes I peel and boil and then mash with sour cream and butter mixed in. I spread some shredded cheddar on top and bake. I bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes. The meat and veggies were cooked and mixed together in a fry pan. I put my frozen veggies in the microwave and zap them and add to the meat mix. I put some broth in the meat mix so it does not get too dry. I am forgetting some things but that is the gist of what I do.
My recipe makes a 9 by 13 cake pan full. I don't know how much you need for your crew. I put in a half cup of salsa also instead of ketchup or tomato paste.

When I make beaver or fish pie I top it with corn bread. Always start with smoked sausage. Same pot I browned the ingredients in I make a blonde rue. Throw a few handfuls of frozen veggies in the rue & pour it over the meats, put corn bread mix on top & bake.
Hope this helps!

Pretty much just a meatloaf with mashed taters on it. More of a cold weather meal around here. Good stuff.

Wolfdog you did a great job. It is a classic French winter dish. I'm sure they will ask you to make it again. You can also make it with shredded pork or chicken.

Good job.

Pete
