Good post. The bakery near me in Bordeaux (spent three months studying french) was owned by a family from a small town in Normandy. He was exceptionally nice to me and told me that when he and his wife married there were still Germans on the streets but after they came out of the church the Americans were marching down the main blvd.
That story gave me goosebumps.
Thanks to all the brave vets that served our country!
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

Many vets came home maimed for life. Many gave their lives. All to make sure this would be a free country. How can we not be forever grateful to all these courageous men and women? Thank you all!
My doctor suggested I start doing squats, so I moved all the beer to the bottom shelf of my fridge.

Beaverpeeler,
I've heard so many stories over the last 30 years from good folks who were here during the war. My wife's dad was taken by the Nazis as a guide for food, wine and the good life. He had no choice except that or die. My mother in law hid butter and eggs from her parent's farm in her bags coming back from their farm 2 hours away. Had she ever been caught, God knows what. I've met some great veterans here over the years.
Today's ceremony was well done and the village center was full. Young kids holding the flags, coached by a WW2 veteran on the good technique, and lots of heads bowed in honour to the fallen.
Pete WW2 was the war of wars. So sad, that a big part of it had to happen in your country. Lots of brave ones there during that time. Many thanks to all the French people during those horrible times. They are all heroes.
My doctor suggested I start doing squats, so I moved all the beer to the bottom shelf of my fridge.
