I do not like tap water that has fluoride added and tastes of chlorine. So we have a water cooler (and heater) that take 5 gallon jugs. We used to get our jugs filled with reverse osmosis water from Walmart. Then in 2018 I had a bighorn sheep hunt and we got our camp water from a spring on U. S. Forest Land. We love this water and started harvesting our water from this spring. The spring comes out of a steep slope and runs into a small creek beside the road 100 yards down stream.100 feet of poly pipe will get the spring water across the creek and within 10 feet of the truck. We enjoy the outings to the spring. We get about 4 months worth at a time and store it in our garage. Covering it with heavy blankets keeps algae from growing and the water stays fresh for that long. My daughter and her husband lives in Missouri and they have also found a spring with good water they harvest the same way.

Anyone else get their drinking water from a spring?

United we stand.

There used to be a spring in the ditch a couple miles from where I grew up in Iowa. There was a plastic coffee cup upside down on a fence post so anyone could stop and grab a drink. I know one guy who only used that water to make sun tea. Been a while since Ive thought of that spot.

I really like the taste of the water from our well. It does stain everything orange.

There's a capped spring right behind our house, that has very good looking water come out of it, most of the year. I should get it tested.

City water tastes foul from all of the chemicals to me. Most water in restaurants is terrible.

If I were you I would have the water tested just to be sure. I've lived on well water my whole life except my college years where the water was so heavily chlorinated it was hard to drink.

I test our well every year for bacteria and once did a complete analysis including nitrates and arsenic. We were good all the way around. Our water from a 110' deep well is the best and has never tested positive for bacteria.

Well water, I drink a good bit of water, I like to fill a glass with ice cubes and top it off with water.

Been drinking the same soft spring water over 70 yrs. Attended a church where a small village had drilled a deep well for their water. It was as hard as nails. An electric coffee pot would only last a few months before the minerals would clog it. 8 people out of a congregation of about 40 had kidney stones. The whole village was plagued with kidney stones. A guy made a killing installing water softeners. Finally they got hooked on to a bigger water district that was from a lake. They still have to deal with the chlorine and fluoride and farm chemicals.

A lot of concern with fracking especially around fault areas where the chemicals can migrate into aquifers.

Me and the Mrs. are on a well but she doesn't like the slight sulfur taste of our well. So we go to the artisan well about 10 miles away and get two five gallon carboys of water every other month. She uses it for what she drinks and I still drink the well water.

At one cabin I have good well water, at the other I have a rain/snow catchment system that fills a 2,000 gallon tank, and I supplement with carst water on dry summers

Well water here. Hard iron and smells of rotten egg. Water softener gets rid of the iron but not the smell. We are going to have another filter added to get the smell out.

Our old camp was spring water only, had to go to the local spring and fill up the old, metal milk jugs then dump them into an elevated holding tank that gravity-fed the kitchen and half-bath sinks. I remember one year having to build a series of small fires under the spring pipe to thaw it.

I have a shallow well (about 40") at camp. The water is good but in drought conditions (like now) we try to conserve by supplementing from the spring about a mile down the dirt road.

I have a deep, 310' well at home. We test the water occasionally and it is good although it contains some iron. I also have a spring that feeds a pond on my home property. I'm trying to figure out how to plump it to my new fur shed/summer kitchen.

Eh...wot?

We have a well with excellent water. A little lime but other than that it's pure. drinkable right out of the tap.

Well water in OK is pretty good tasting. Very hard.

Well water in NM is much better tasting. Not as hard.

I've had them tested in the past and all was OK.

I use well water. My grandpa put 2 100 gal water tanks at the spring. One filled the other when full. He than ran a pipe 1/2 mile and hooked it up to the house. He had to have a pressure reducer at the house but he never ran out of water again after that.

ours comes out of the tap. I have a pro pure filter on the counter all our water that gets cooked with or consumed gets ran through. it's still a little hard.

I was thinking I would like to have a well but when I talked to the Amish 7 miles away they said they were told it would have to be a very deep well and would not support the amount of water they required. so I never looked into it any further.

Another think I have been thinking is put a big as I can find tank in the ground and run the gutter drains from the barn roof into it then the over flow into the pond. should probably do that off the house as well if for nothing more than to water the garden and have an extra sourse just incase.

I'm considering a reverse osmosis system from a place in town but that's several thousand dollars and I'm still limited to the tap.
