i have to make some room in my gun safes. I'm thinking about using one of the online gun auctions to sell the few I want to get rid of. I've never sold through or bought from an online auction.

What do you guys that use them think is the best choice?

What fees are involved?

Is it worth the hassle?

Eh...wot?

No experience with guns. Other items - books, traps, etc.

Fees can add up real fast. Plus, most likely you will lose control over the price it sells for.

I think a better option would be a local or regional live auction. But that is just me.

You might talk with 160user and see what he has to say. He has a some experience buying and selling guns.

Thanks Nancy! I recently just put some "excess" stuff on an auction. A couple brought WAY more than they were worth, like stupid money. Others didn't bring what they were worth. After the enormous sellers fees, I feel I lost around 20-25% off what I was offered locally. For some that may be a great deal. For me, never again.

I have nothing clever to put here.

So you don't have the option of setting a minimum bid?

Eh...wot?

A couple of older trap guns I don't use anymore; a Browning BT-99 Plus and a Browning Superposed with Lightning barrels.

Also a 50's era Winchester M12.

Those sound like guns that should sell fairly easily. It's tough to advertise them locally,at least around here it is. I wish I could be more help with the on-line sales. I find myself typically trading them in for something else, which may or may not help create space in the safes.

Are there any sportsman's auctions in your area where you could contract them?

I don’t know, I’ll have to look into it. The last time I sold a gun was decades ago. That’s probably why I need to make some room in the gun safes.
