I just bed the trap shallower if I think water is going to go up over night. Re bed as water goes down. What I do anyway.

Sometimes during the rain, a more serious answer it depends on the body of water I'm setting, small cricks rise and fall very quickly but larger streams take longer and rivers the longest to settle back to normal levels ponds and lakes can really depend on local conditions and terrain. That's where floats could shine for keeping sets working.

Hey Myside good to see you around here again. I don't do a bunch of water trappin but fluctuations in the water level can greatly affect some types of sets. Each drainage is different.
One little creak might only take 2 days to get down to its average water line. A bigger drainage might take all week.

Some sets can still perform well. Float type sets or a snare hallway up a slide might work at any water level. Hope this helps and hood luck.

I'll put em out in the rain. Steel in the shed don't catch. Just get an estimate of the rain fall and bed it lower than that. If it's gonna rain 1-3 inches bed just under the waters surface. 3-6 make a pocket up the bank and cover it in blended grass like a goofy dirthole. If it's coon I'm after I'm happy with a trap sitting 1-4 inches below the water shoved up tight to the pocket

Bottom edge sets with body grips will work even when the water comes up. Just stake em good.
