jbyrd- But over on the "Is it a lethal shot?" (or whatever the title of that thread was) last week you already had claimed 400 and said you were pushing towards 500. Now you're saying you've nailed less than 200 here. What gives? You have to keep them Excels updated
160user- I think you missed that thread. Lots of high numbers being discussed there. One of the Marylanders told of a young lad that had killed a 100 by the time he had turned 18 or so. The young guy had supposedly killed 30 does in one year-- I would be rather sick of skinning and butchering venison by that point but to each their own. When the Administrative State says, "go kill as many of my anterless deer you can", there will be people that will oblige.
The best I've done on anterless deer is doubling up a couple of times. One time it was pushing (walking) a CRP field, carrying a .22-250 no less (70 grain spitzer load I've done, sort of a .243 light that way). The other time I was a "blocking" by standing in the back of my brother's pick-up bed and they ended up pushing some towards me. I shot the big doe first because I figured she was smarter than the fawns and then shot one of the post-sucklers after it stopped after seeing momma hit the ground. I felt a bit bad about that but the thought didn't linger long. That action probably took all of about 20 seconds from the time I first saw them until the second one was down. That was with my main rifle, a Savage 110 .308 with a heavy barrel and shooting my 125 grain Nosler loads I make.
