Got the opportunity to run down to Seward this past weekend and chase some winter halibut, windy and a little nippy but a successful trip.



Edward Hutzel of Hutzel Trap Company made this trap for the ATA's 50th anniversary! It will be up for auction at the fling! Talk about craftmanship! This trap is bueatiful!

How deep did you have to go for the butts?

teacherman we were only at 250 ft inside the bay, way to windy to be on the big water.

That’s amazing! It’s hard finding fish inside these days. I have burnt a lot of gas looking. 20 yrs ago you could get them off the docks.

I had a blast at the fling and got to chat with this guy for a bit


From the Fling I had to go down to the lower 48 for a spell to take care of some medical stuff and didn't get back up here till May 3rd.

First order of business was getting the bear bait in I found some of Team V 's (John's) Glacier Bear Attractants here in town at Sportsmans! I can't say enough good stuff about his products for baiting bears! I even have the lucky red Teddy bear at the bait



Next order of business was chasing the beavers. It took a few days to get gear ready boat/traps but it all came together. Me and my buddy Cory went out Thursday and set a bunch of gear then ran and pulled today. I have not trapped this area for 5 years and we did ok pulling 17 beaver.

Well it has been a pretty off summer for me. With all the closures for kings and silvers I really didn't do much fishing, Hit the copper dip netting once and got a few and that was about it for salmon.

A buddy of mine took me to a lake here by my place and we caught a few nice rainbows



And I got to hit Seward for a day. No halibut but we got a bunch of cod.





Bear season was way off for me as well. Didn't see a single brownie but did connect with a decent blackie. Bear burgers are the bomb



Team V (John) hooked me up again this year with some of his product The stuff he makes hands down produces, I had 6 different blackies come in and sniff his sow in heat stuff. and they pretty much cleaned out the barrels everytime,



I just could not get on them, Every time I thought I had them dialed in they never showed up.

I hit moose hunting hard this year and spent alot of time hunting with Ted up in TOK. Ted got his bull but all I managed to see was these.......



We got out right before the season and picked up a few birds.......



I hunted a few other spots and just could not find a bull to save my butt, The last 5 days I figured I would hit a honey that me and a buddy had found 3 years ago. Turned out to be a good decision



Picked up a nice fat double fork



In the course of my travels up to TOK I found these at Ted's Fur Shed second hand. The trapper that made these obviously spent a lot of time doing so. The liitle tabs he fold back on the mailbox so you could wire the 120 in there.



They put screen in it to make sure the voles cant rob you.



The back side they pop riveted so that it opens and closes like a hinge, witha piece of wire to keep it shut.



Pretty good stuff right there if someone was looking to use newspaper tubes.

Working on trying to get a few beaver sets out later this week, gotta finish putting up the moose

Spent the past 2 days dropping gear, Got all my marten and kitty sets in yesterday and today was spent setting up bait stations and snare lines.
Should be a good run when I head out next.

I've been busy between the wife's birthday and getting firewood put up and sold, but I have a few sets out and more to come soon. Nice sunrise, I need to work on taking more pictures

What kind of winter are you expecting weather wise this season.
Its looking like we will have another winter similar to last year here.

We actually have a little snow on my line So no painful bumpy rides on the 4 wheeler Hoping we get a little more snow and have a mild winter, the moose sure could use it in my neck of the woods. Their numbers are way down from the past 2 winters of deep snow, a lot of die off's with calves.

First marten of the year 🙂 Caught 2 but the other one kinda landed on the pan of a #4. Had a yote steal a duck out of a cubby, came in through the side.



The high light of my day was getting a call from the wife,. my son and his wife brought two beautiful heathy baby boys into the world this morning.

Feeling pretty blessed
