Yes. Do it. I am using fleshing scraps from Spring beaver for fisher bait right now. Real greasy and doesn't freeze easily.

I started this season. Got 3 5g pails in the freezer. A frozen block would be hard for animals to drag off, or I can chip some off and use it elsewhere. I also gut beaver, livers cut out and bagged, and stack em in the freezers.

Chickens will eat it too. Good source of protein and fat for chickens, and you don't have to smell beaver fat farts like you would if you fed it to your dog.

Get some old ice trays. Put a wire in each cube and fill with beaver fleshings. Freeze and you have single use bait for any conibear box you have set. Wire will hold it where your u put it.

Bait. Stick it in the hole, rub it on a tree like a cheese grader or whatever. I read this book about this Johnson guy from back in the 1800s, liver eaten Johnson or some kinda nick name like that…..lol.
Really though, his close friends said it was most likely for notoriety and never seen him actually eat one out of an indian. Once in front of a group of other mountain men after a little battle, he cut one out, turned and stuck it in his mouth but it was most likely to keep his fearsome reputation. His friends said that he cut livers out of everything, people he killed included because it was his favourite bait.

That’s what I did last year with donut makers. With our stupid warm weather last winter it sometimes slid off the wire and was laying in the snow. This year I’m going to do like Rich Mellon and just jam it up there with a wire mesh.

Which beavers do you eat?
Fresh as in you dispatch when you arrive, drowned that have been under for maybe 48hrs? 2 day check. Dont want to add one to the grind batch that might be bad and ruin the entire batch.

I rendered a bunch of beaver fleshing down. Poured the rendered fat into pink jars. Plan on using it this year for bait in my fisher boxes just going to smear it in the back of the box with some meat

Fleshing scraps are tops. I never tossed them. Would just bag them up and use them in cubbies, boxes, and what-not. Didn't matter what kind, saved all.

Just doing what I want now.

When I'm scraping a beaver, I do it with marten bait in mind. I purposely push a piece of flesh the size of bait I want off the beaver. I them put them on a cookie sheet and into the freezer. Once frozen, I take them and place them in bags. If you throw them into the bags without freezing each individual piece, they become a big old clump that you are trying to break apart later for use.

I let them freeze into a big chunk, then I chop pieces off with an axe as needed
