Hey all, it's been a while since I've been on here. I was wondering what's everybody's go to when it comes to staking beaver footholds. Also, are laminated jaws worth the little bit extra ? Thanks

I use an 8 foot pole stake in 3 or 4 foot of water and a short stake on land connected with a slide wire and a positive drowner lock on the trap.

24" stakes for the most part on the top end, sometimes longer in really soft ground. Then its a drowning rod. If i use a solid stake, its a 4/5ft tbar at the bottom

Usually I snare, use a long (8-10 ft extension), and check every day. But, when I do use foot holds, I cable stake at the deep end. Pushed down in 18-24 inches of sand or mud and the beavers can’t move them. The upper end is a 12-18 inch wooden stake. I’ve never lost a beaver with 14 gauge wire but 11 gauge is more insurance.

Outside of that, arthritis keeps me from pushing springs, so I’ve gone to snares. Look up Dale Billingsley for his use of foot holds and extension cable or chain.
