For those of you who are interested in traps from 500 years ago....there is an author named " Leonard Mascall " from England......wrote book in 1500s on traps........I have never been able to find it at libraries......only parts of it on line.........most rely on gravity and dead fall. Maybe indigenous people of north America used same principles

Oldest book I know of that has trapping and snaring in it would be the Holy Bible (king James version)

I figure people have been trapping since the beginning

Snares and deadfalls like stated above

Steel traps are relatively new though I would think
