Just wondering there is any off grid living people here. I know a few that do it and is a tough life but simple is better in so many ways.

How many of you live in a cabin that is remote but with some luxuries?

I live in town but have a couple off grid cabins I use.
Nowadays I mostly use the one that is closest to town because my wife who has a hard time with her mobility enjoys the off grid time at the cabin.
I find it nice to spend a week or two at the cabin and also enjoy coming to town after.
I have year round acess to the cabin by atv, snowmobile. Can also acess by water but dont.
The other off grid cabin is much further from town and only acessible in winter.
Used to spend a lot of time there up until about 6 or 7 years ago.Only stay there now when trapping the far end of the northern line.It is rustic.Woodstove and propane stove and light.
At the cabin that we regularly use we have a generator for power to charge up batterys etc. when needed(cabin is wired)
Everything else is old school. There is cell phone service there also, so good for any emergency that may arise because of our age.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

We live off grid half the year, but we are not roughing it. We have generators and installed solar last summer. Starlink, running water, and power are nice 230 miles from the nearest road.

We did up until this fall, raised my kids in the bush. We used to have no electricity, no running water, and no cell phone/ intranet. Eventually we got a little generator and then a few years ago we got a Starlink for intranet and we could also use the cell phone through it. My wife washed our clothes by hand, cooked everything from scratch, we homeschooled, kids made all their toys, etc etc. it's like anything else it's all in what your used to, we're living closer to civilization now and we're trying to get used to that lol.

Built myself a Barge because I wanted an excavator up there and boated it up the river. It was a pretty good adventure but we made it.

It would be tough to live off the communications grid. We had radio and tv and a cb at one time. With sat phones now there probably no place off the communications grid.

I think it means mostly not tied to the electrical grid. Very few people not tied to the transportation grid.

My camp is the last on the grid, the power line stops there.

There are three camps in the valley below me that operate off-grid. They have spring water plumbed in and use gas lighting or lanterns and gas stoves. One camp had a gas fridge but they said it was more of a than it was worth so now they just use coolers. That camp also has a generator but they don't run it much.

There's another place way down, a big logger dude lives there. He has a solar panel next to his small shack.

I'm very impressed. Off grid with some luxury is still a very simple life and a good one. The people I know that live off grid do have a generator but other than that it is pretty simple. I enjoy a few days of it than I'm ready for some easier life but absolutely love the solitude.

No cell service at my cabins at the ranch. One on both ends and the one is walk-in only to rough of area.

Living off the grid is not simpler. It is actually a very complicated life.

I would agree with this. It is a logistical nightmare and expensive, but once your there it's nice to not see people for a few months.

Ohh I agree you work to survive without all the conveniences of a conventional home. What I meant by simple life you don't have that hustle/bustle of life and all high tech keeping up with the jones.

Off grid is for the survivalist hard working creative people that love their freedom from society BS. Nothing easy simple about it.
