I have the old 300 win mag. Looks to me like velocities are similar. Whats not to like if you can get a 180 grain bullet to go 3000 FPS?

Danny I have a wsm....short case short action I bought off a guy from church. Im absolutely crazy about it. Its a savage model 16 trophy hunter with accu trigger. It feels just like my old remington 700"s

I just wouldn't personally nowdays. Just an expensive lil deal..brass is hard to find ammo is like $60 a box Other then it being a short action don't see much benefit over a .300 win mag.... Then again I'm not much of a 30cal plus guy.
Buddy has a sako 300wsm and just getting components to load the dang thing is such a chore. But I guess if you shoot less then 20rd a year though it

My wife won one at a RMEF banquet in 2009 the same year she drew a KY bull elk tag she is a small lady under five foot tall she was able to shoot it well with a torn rotator cuff that she had operated on after the hunt. The guide had another hunter close by that had a scope that was fogged up and asked if they could use her rifle in less than a half hour her rifle kill two KY elk. She not taken anything else but she did like her 300 wsm rifle.

I have had a couple. Win 70 super grade and a Tikka T3x. Both shot very well and recoil was not bad.
I reload for everything and brass was easy to come by in this area. I still have a 325 WSM. Have enough brass to wear the barrel out.

Plus- Short action. 3000fps with a 180gr bullet with a bc of .500 and higher = flat shooting.
Minus- one less bullet in the mag.
Mine is a Savage 11. I reload and have enough brass to out last me. A friend has a Savage 16(?) 300wsm that he had to have re-chambered. It started having brass stick in the chamber after a hundred rounds or so. You could see a ring on the brass about a quarter inch below the shoulder. Even before it started sticking. This was with factory and reloads.

No disrespect Mr. Wolfdog....
But a guy could buy a 300 WSM with three boxes of ammo and kill elk, moose, and deer for a year or two, for less money than you spent in the last month messing around with some weird caliber.
You are a paper puncher, no shame in that..... but some of us just want a rifle that kills what we point it at.
Good luck,
Pete Wow,now that made perfect sense to me. Also no disrespect to wolfie.

I changed my Indiana legal .358 WSSM to a .300WSM when they changed our laws and it shoots 165 GN Barnes tipped TSX BT bullets very well and the recoil is not bad at all. I use a suppressor on it too. 300 yards is a guppie shot with it. I don't use it for plinking though.
