If hunting from a shack do you worry about wood smoke from a stove scaring deer?

No , deer aren’t afraid of wood smoke
If any thing it covers up your human scent

Have smoked my hunting clothes in the past, rumor has it the natives use to as well. Dont think it will hurt at all.

if all the kitchen windows weren't painted shut , it would be the best deer blind going

Great uncle used to build a fire in a coffee can inside his pallet blind every year. Shot does every year. Not sure if it scared bucks, he wasn't waiting for horns.

Won't bother them. Probably better than any manufactured scent cover. Smoke is natural, they're used to it from brush fires and lightening strikes.

2 years ago I was trying to get my cousins kid a deer , I saw more deer that year , didn't shoot a darn one.
I saw 7 in the first 2 hours of opening morning
could have shot several , I could not get the kid to shoot any one of them.
4 were running and 2 were small one was walking slow head down , eating and I couldn't get the kid to pull the trigger because you could never see all of the deer at once as it worked between the little pines , it was like pick the next opening and when you see shoulder , squeeze
a nice buck in that lot as well but running while I am trying to get the kid to shoot the standing one.

shooting confidence is real and you need to build the skills to get the confidence , sight in isn't enough
WI deer come fast after the woods opens up a few minutes after first light and 20 rounds have already been heard ,you have seconds to make meat.

anyway I realized that when I shoot the first fat doe to walk buy , I probably often don't see the 3 more and the buck 2 minutes behind her.
on the other hand , sometimes she is a loner and a meat on the pole is worth a lot of deer in the woods.

Not a deer story, but the first time I did a drop hunt for moose in Alaska, the pilot, who was a master guide told us if we built fires every night and whooped it up in camp we'd have a great camping trip but probably not see much for moose. Talk at a whisper, he said. He was right. We were in moose for 6 days but never got a good bow shot. The last morning we had a 60 inch bull walk 50 yards from the tent as he heard us breaking down the poles.

Two years later I went back to the same spot solo and it was easy to be silent and no fires and I kept them around until I killed a nice one. I know that moose in AK are around fires often, but you never know what spooks an animal until it is too late.

Hunting here, I don't think it matters too much because there are farms all around and they are used to tractors, cars and chimney smoke.

Just a thought.

Pete

In my part of the world between people heating with wood, burning leaves and yard debris, and wildfires deer smell smoke so often it is just part of their world and they pay it no mind.

Smoke is the best cover scent you have. At one cabin I have has an open fire pit that we burn slash and what not. The cabin sets in an opening that has alfalfa and grass 70/30% and with all the burning we do there and stove going in the cabin, it is the best place to hunt.

I like taking pictures and have big game photos galore from just that 5 to 8 acre field where fire smell is year around.

Not to mention the wood stove for heat!
