… a simple flat set with a smear of good lure works also … if I’m setting up to just catch as many as I can I run 90% dirtholes

…. Good luck and don’t forget to share you catch pictures and rack up on the likes

TrapperE the sets you made are all proven coyote takers. Use Savell’s set tip too.
Location, location, location is best advice I can give. Fine good locations, find sign, make sets. After that it’s mostly a patience and numbers game.
Coon can spend their whole lives in a relatively small area. Den, food, water, find the coon trails connecting them and you can have catches overnight and you can clean out the population real fast there too.
Coyotes are different and may travel a bigger area but it depends on your location. Sometimes catches come quickly, sometimes a few days.
More traps in more locations will put more odds in your favor.
Good luck bud and can’t wait to see your pics of your first one!
Jim

Good job on those coon and the possum. Nice work! The mouse catch was awesome too. grin

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Find where coyotes are going along the edge of a corn or bean field. Take a rake and rake a path about 20 feet long and 8'' wide with the ends tapering off and obscured like a machine did it. Don't leave piles of beans or corn - take them away from the set. About in the middle of your path set a trap and figure this is a trail. Put some small dirt clods close to the trap where you do not want the coyotes to step. Blend this in so you can't tell it is there. On the up wind side of this put a cornstalk or bean stalk about 8'' tall and put some lure on the top of it. If you get no action in a couple days put a dropping on one of the spring levers and some pee on the corn stalk or bean stalk and only come close enough to see if it has been messed with. Stay away from it.

Just passin through

It's been dry they form habits.
If in flat land Ohio this may show pattern.

Above post are great but don’t try making it harder than it is. Just like school get the fundamentals down on one so you can make a great set then pick another set and do it until you get it perfect. Good luck

I agree with Brad. Keep it simple. You can usually pic of a pretty good percent of the population with simple dirt holes unless they have been trapped pretty hard previously. If your not catching and on location I would suspect there are other reasons for not catching other than what type of set your using. I think beginners go down the rabbit hole of looking for the best set too often.

Its a numbers game. Set more traps. If you have any left at home they won't ever catch anything.
