I live by a highway and there have been a lot of car/deer collisions in front of my place through the years. Several cars had so much damaged they had to be towed. I don't worry about taking too many doe or smaller deer because I've seen too many get splatted on the highway anyway. Plus you could be saving someone's life by keeping them thinned down by the highway.

Meat's meat. My son and I go by the philosophy that "brown is down." If they happen to have bones on their heads that's fine, and we have wound up with some fine bucks while filling the freezers.

A#1 first choice to put in the freezer is Bambi's little sister. And maybe his other little sister too.

You get a lot of crap shooting small deer, but none of it comes at the dinner table. Kill what you want.

If I feel like shooting a fryer, that’s what I do, no excuses.

Yup, buddies have been at camp all week. I couldn’t make it this year. Shoot the first one you have a tag for.

the boys shoot a lot of deer. Depending on where they are hunting determine what they will shoot. Of course they want a big buck but have no issues shooting doe and button bucks. Now they get a lot of hunting opportunities so do let a lot walk my 14 year old let's more walk than my 12 year old. 12 year old has shot 5 this year so far and the 14 only 2 but wants a few more mainly wants to get one with his 350 legend since he had had it 2 years now and not shot anything with it. Last year he shot 5 between his bow and x bow and gun during youth before gun season was done and burn tot when gun season came in and his buck tag was filled.

Shot what you have tags for and makes you happy

You all should be ashamed of yourselves. Only ladies and kids should ever kill any deer without a rack measuring at least 180. grin

I've shot well over 56,000 deer. This is the smallest one I ever shot, but I was 3 years old and I had a cold, so I shot it anyway. A little embarrassed I had it mounted. Should of sawed them off for the dog to chew on.

That’s absolutely correct.

Look at you being humble. That’s probably the smallest deer in Iowa, and you’ve shot more than that. Was that only the Saturday count?

10 or 12 yard loads? I may have to call Bull here.

Yeah, you certainly should have let that baby grow another year.

I have nothing clever to put here.

grandpa called them corn thieves them and coon and had there been much for turkey his way them also.
he only hunted with us for about 8-10 years after he retired. before that he was usually too busy farming or getting caught up on outdoor stone and concrete jobs.

anyplace they are a nuisance , then nuisance rules apply

if it's brown , it's down.

Shoot those 5-month-old deer they don't have CWD. And they load easy.

Rifle season here is during the peak of rut. The bucks stop eating, lose weight, get gaunt, and I've had some that were downright inedible. I'll take a doe or young buck over a monster for eating purposes.

NY has done a good job of that. The chances of killing a B&C or P&Y buck in northern NY are slim to none. Lewis County, where I live has never had a P&Y entree. So if you don’t eat the antlers hunters should move here. LOL

Long Island has a lot of deer, you can keep getting permits for as many does as you want, The State is practically begging for you to kill them, but it's archery only for the most part and most of these guys only want a huge buck, using the does to attract them.
Not many killers among them except the nuisance guys.

Those who hunt big antlers want you to pass on little deer to change the herd's age structure. This gives trophy hunters a better chance of tagging a booner. Making their quest easier is not your duty. And, killing a big one would not be as special if there was a trophy buck behind every tree so to speak.
So you enjoy shooting what you want and the trophy hunter should appreciate doing that which is difficult.

You do you as long as it is legal.
I will admit to being a bit of a hypocrite as I like to see catch and release of big bluecats so I can CPR bigger fish. But, it's pretty difficult to CPR a deer.

My 2 cents.
