6hr 30 drive back to the house. Wife made me promise id stop and take more then one break. Well got over the bridge and into Louisiana and saw a sign for these rest stop so said why not .
Pull in and was just gonna sit in the car but saw this old timer out fishing. Noticed his rod was a bit different. Really long , whippy lil spinny reel near the bottom.

Remembered being told and asked about older black people liking to use fly rods with spinning reels for general fishing. Never seen it in my area but apparently it was one of those things that's kinda ...well exclusive isn't the word but you see older black people doing it more then anyone. Well figured why not. Went out asked how the fishing was and had a little chat . Old timer was just tickled pink to have someone chat with for a second . Said a lot of folks don't know about the flu rod trick ..said works better then an crappie rod. More sensitivity and more flex. Let's you play a 10lbs catfish with 4 lbs line really easy if you know what your doing . But apparently her preferred 10lbs.


Told him to have a good one and self him to it and just walked around for a bit. They have a great lil walking trail over the water .

8' fly rods with small spinning reels and 4 lb. test is what I use for perch fishing here.I can feel them looking at it with those fly rods.Reels are good Pfluegers with good drags so If I hook bigger fish its no problem playing them out.

Was down there round Galveston way. Boat was at the Brazos locks when I got off. The lil place I stopped at is about 45 min past Beaumont right across the bridge going into Louisiana

Meh depends, large majority of older people around here are .....yeah not the same quality of many. Seems 75+ is good ... younger....well lots of conversation about how bad trump is ,beer , asking for money, women and...yeah.

The cool old guys with a lot of knowledge are becoming more and more few and far between round here unfortunately according to dad most of the really good ones I'd would have loved with all the woods knowiand the like died off right after I was born
