While out deer hunting this fall I got thinking I am going to try to establish some deer food plots into standing corn before we harvest the corn. Probably oats/turnips/radish seed or something like that because these plants will die with the cold winter temps and not need to be sprayed to kill them when we go to plant back into the field next year. I called a company that uses drones and was told they get about a $250 set up fee for each plot.... unless two plots are side by side. For a 4 or 5 acre plot I thought that is kinda pricey. Not saying it isn't worth that but just for a small food plot for deer to me it kinda seemed high. Anybody seed into standing corn... anybody put in food plots? Any comments on how the application means are done ? Thanks ...

For a small amount I think you could walk between the rows with one of the hand crank seeders

4-5 acres is fairly sizable as far as food plots go. Seeding into corn rows is pretty common. If you plan to do 4-5 acres, the $250 will seem like a steal by the time you’re half done seeding by hand.

Just remember whatever you seed you have to get a corn head through it.

This little plot out back measures about 40' x 200' and as per game cameras, gets about 20 deer per night. One night had 6 different bucks. Turnips, then white clover in the middle, red clover on the right. All the clover action is on the red clover. Also planted tillage radishes and they wiped those out early on.

My take is to wait until corn is picked and over seed the stubble. Still plenty of time to grow into something "attractive".
