I'm betting the good stuff will remain the same, the others.....probably down a bit. Guess I didn't answer the question.......Not yet.

I'll be interested to see how this thread progresses. Most buyers will likely start out a little on the conservative side is my guess.

Predictions that I have read say down by at least 25% from last year with the hatter market flooded. Hard to say what'll happen later.

Ill let you know after the first FHA auction in March. As far as private fur sales of tanned beaver the price is up.

I suspect that on the association sales properly lotted batches of beaver will find willing crafter buyers. I think they may have been left out the last couple of selling seasons with $40+ averages for blanket beaver.

Was thinking of hanging onto a couple bags as I now have the freezer space, but for now, they’ll be in the March auction.

Heavy shearing beavers are the new hatters. Hatters are the new I don’t know low grade possum LOL When you have a buyer telling trappers to wait until December in northern states to trap beavers that’s pretty telling.

It's threads like this that'll keep coming up before January that'll make my choice for me. But hanging onto them is also a huge gamble that could really cost a fella in the end...lol

Hey I love trapping beavers and I will continue to do so, but may re-think how and when I sell them etc.. Good thing is that the castor market will creep back up sooner than later and that always helps out. But honestly the beaver market isn't good-its a lot of work for $20 average if you can get that. I feel for the Ontario registered trapline guys that have to trap some of their beavers as per their rules( or so I have read somewhere). To me the best part about catching beavers is being out there and getting away from all the B.S. Going on in this crazy world these days. Ice fishing is close on the horizon so there's always that for escaping.

I will still be hitting beaver hard. With the $$$ I get from the bi-products plus the revenue generated from the carcasses I use for bobcat and civet bait I should be fine. Still kinda sucks to not be getting $40 for blanket hatters after getting spoiled the last two years. I will be lotting my beaver to appeal to the crafters which should help my averages.
