Drags will spoil you! They do me anyway I set trails and the site gits preserved.

You night have to wait until all the leftover venison from deer season gits ate up b4 your catch goes up. Just a guess.

Forget staking in woodsy cover areas. Going to loose some animals by them pumping the stakes or cables. Ground is soft and rocky in most cases just due to the environment. Make up some cable extensions of various sizes or if you scout your locations you can make the extensions the length you need. They can be used many times over in most cases down the road.

Use small rocks and sticks to stabilize your traps in that kind of setting. Don't let that situation beat you up. Learn to adapt and you will learn how to do that in time.

Hooking a foothold on a long extension to something solid is hard on the animal,it is illegal here.
Use a heavy clog they can move - much better.

I am not trying to be a critic and I am FAR from an expert canine trapper but the first picture you posted today of your "fresh" set......the trap looks to be level with the ground before covering. Is that the case? I prefer mine to be slightly below ground level after covering. If the animal needs to raise its foot at all to step on the pan, you are asking a lot. It may just be the angle of the picture too.

I have nothing clever to put here.

160 you are right about that. It seems I struggle in a lot of aspects. I noticed that on a set I made earlier Tuesday and had to dig the bed a little deeper. I missed todays. So I think I worry if there’s too much dirt UNDER the pan, the trap won’t fire? Do I just have to pack AROUND the jaws? Feel like I need between them too and under the pan. I think I’m going crazy today

You should be getting some action tonight. This front we have coming in right now is going to push the predators to aggressively get out to hunt. Probably on the prowl as I type this. You are not far from me so that is my forecast.

Change of plans. Had sirloin , zucchini and basmati rice and it was good! Chuckie has my cold and he wants to feel a little better for chicken wings so we will try them tomorrow!

When a man quits eating that’s when he’s sick.
