I would believe 4 or maybe even 6 shot in the head would work , my issue is most of the time they are running away from me and not presenting a head shot.
maybe calling them in would change that but most of the ones that I shoot are not called.

so back to my recommendation of buck any buck that patterns well for you

this is Hornady #4buck 12ga 2 3/4
from an 870 with a full choke
yes the gun was shooting a little to the right with that load the red dot was adjusted later.
24 of 24 in the target most in a 12 inch circle

mostly for coon I carry a 22

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Wolfdog--not really sure but as a reference point in the era prior to tungsten based heavier than lead, copper plated 2s and BBs were common for use in both 10 & 12ga for coyotes so that'd probably be my starting point. Gut says 2s likely could be little better given 20 gauge payload.

Used in a Mossberg 500 with 24" barrel and modified choke.
Same load actually patterns well in my Mossberg Shockwave also.

I'd love to see the pattern at 25 yards. I never could get any factory buckshot to pattern well at that range from a 20ga.

I do have some 2 3/4" reloads of lead BB's I got from a friend before he passed that work very well.

I guess I suck at posting pic's here..
I have 3 round patterns from factory Remington, Aquila, and my reloads at 12 and 30 yards.
Remington is the worst, Aquila is better at 12 yards but opens way up at 30 yards.

Side note brought up about TSS, I've been working on some 20ga and 12ga mini shells loaded with .177 BB tungsten , with a 1 oz payload.
Ballistics at 100 yards is VERY impressive with penetration surpassing .22 mini mag

Alrighty the shop had #6 high brass for $18 for 20 or #4 for 5 for $17... Think I'll do the #6.. thick stuff shouldn't be too far of a shot
