Curiosity question more than anything, I was wondering if any one has done baited suspended under ice 110 sets for rats with any success? No support stick in short. Thanks

I have done some here on the rare occasions I have rats and ice that I can trap. Works fairly well especially if the ice has been on for more than a few days.

Not sure what you mean by the no support stick thing?

I always try to shove a stick in there to hold it solid, I don't want them knocking over the trap

I believe he is talking about the suspended trap on a wire baited between the jaws not the trigger like we set for beaver.
No need for poles and the set works for beaver because it is not held solid.
Never tried it for rats.

Boco yes was thinking similar to to the hanging beaver set. Truly was a curiously question, as I have realized while out trapping in all of the years of setting them under ice, I have never seen anyone talk about that. May have to just give it a try and see.

I still say you will be better off stabilizing the trap. A 110 Is a very small target.

If wanted to try doing the suspended wire thing, I'd try using a single spring 160/220 im afraid a 110n would be fired empty a lot.

It works with beaver because they try to grab the bait with their feet. I'm not sure that would be true with muskrats. I have caught muskrats in baited and hung 330s, but usually they just chew some bark off the stick.
I would use a 160 and bait the trigger.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Try it,perfect it,make a video of it,write a book,then retire from trapping.

Keep that trap as close as you can below the ice. Rats for the most part are swimming just below the ice.

I've used orange peels and grapefruit rinds for bait. They show up and don't lose their color under water.
