Good job guys! This one died on the last day of the 9 day firearm season. Good luck to those still out chasing with the smoke pole.

No deer pictures for me I shot the first deer I seen that gave me the opportunity. So I filled my doe tag with fawn buck. Not a big deer but it will be good eating. Our group seen very few deer so it was my little one and my brother and son filled their doe tags. Overall it was very quiet season in our area. Now that I'm officially handicapped my son Ranger was main reason I was able to hunt this year. What a life saver for me. Mac

I need to take more pictures
my son started us off with a nice fat doe, still in milk first thing opening morning
I shot a decent doe Saturday afternoon , she stopped running , slowed to a walk and stood still but at about 120 yards all she was giving me was a threading the needle back of the lungs and liver so I took it , waited an hour twenty till we finished up the drive then started blood trailing , that is my longest gun deer blood trail , caught up to her and saw her laying down and finished her in the neck , popped back out to the road a half mile from where shot with the deer in tow, never more than 10-15 feet without blood and often not more than 5 dribble dribble all along
admittedly I wasn't quite where I wanted to hit , but it worked out and no meat lost , the slug sliced her abdomen open right behind the ribs
Sunday morning my cousin got a 3 point buck double lung 20 feet of blood spray behind it , then almost nothing we knew it was a dead deer and just as I found the blood trial about 35 bloodless yards from the place of the shot , my cousin who had been circling also looking found the deer piled up in some thick stuff about 20 more yards from where the blood started back up a few seconds later. it went almost strait north 55 yards with no lungs but running in the thickest of cover.
that was the most blood trailing I have done in years
even my sons doe went about 50 yards with no lungs opening morning a lot more blood on that trail she had run in with another stopped about 65 yards and all he had was a double lung threading the needle shot between trees
my son and cousin were using 12ga rifled slugs big hole in and out lung tissue all over behind shot
the deer were just tough this year.
I was using the 20ga sabots
it did seem awfully quiet for an opening weekend

For gun season, sat every day 5:30 am to just about 5pm. I get in early so any deer I bump gets back on their natural pattern or others bump them my way. 9 days - approx 93 hours ( ran into house twice) Bucks - total for week 5 (two were before shooting hours) 3 were very small Does - same 3 fawns and 2 does most days. by last weekend it was 1 doe and 1 fawn - of the spoiled 5 Had one non resident group of 4 does/fawns cross my field twice. Unknown - saw a group of 6 in a field about 2500 yrds across a valley in my neighbors property. (didn't see antlers) Highlight was watching this fawn head-butt the ice on the water tank to get a drink Neighbors two daughters same the same group of does/fawns I watched every day. They shot a huge buck I saw before hours and they shot one of the little bucks I passed. That's all they had of a group of 6 on 120is acres

My deer season was a rollercoaster ride. My wife is in a very fragile state with her heart and lungs. Several days before deer season she was hospitalized with pneumonia which triggered her bad heart into v-tach her heart ejection fraction is 25 o/o up from 13 o/o looong story short 3 hospitals later she was released the day before thanksgiving. I hunt on our land I made it out Friday with my granddaughter 2 hours in the morning and she got a nice 8 pointer . Her first deer . I got out an hour and a half Saturday. And Sunday evening I managed to get my biggest buck so far. Maybe it had something to do with all my prayers in the hospital. Forgot to add very nice bucks everyone and congratulations!

That’s a dandy Marshrat! How wide is that fella? only 19 inches inside. The one side lays out which makes it appear wider. Wow, congrats Marshrat, did you know he was around your area? Great buck. A lot of folks did. I even took a picture of it Monday night in front of the barn. I will admit it was a bad picture, but it was 450-500 yards away feeding in disked corn field. Awesome work coyote addict. Lots of memories there.
