I'd say 50% of grey squirrels are black here now

We have always had a healthy population of black gray squirrels around camp in north-central PA.

Never had them around home in southeast PA until about 6-7 years ago when I saw my first one. About 40% of them are black now.

If not too messed up, might have some value to a taxidermist.

The only black squirrels here are on one neck of land and not another anywhere else... you'd think they'd spread some.

Don't have to be, most all taxidermist's will buy/sell all over the country.

When I was a kid, if you saw a gray squirrel, it was considered a freak of nature. Ours were all black squirrels. We never even heard of a grey squirrel.

Can't sell a black grey or fox squirrel to any local taxidermy shop here. There are just too many.

Growing up (70s), it was more rare to see gray squirrels than black in the Windsor area. I was a bit skeptical when Americans would tell me they'd never seen a black squirrel LOL.

We actually have a few albinos in my area that I see once in a while.

I have never seen a black one up here.

There was a taxidermy mount at my gun club that had three gray squirrels on a branch; a regular gray, a black and an albino. It was a cool mount. Don't know what happened to it.
