One of the things in life that pops my cork are vague, incomplete, impossible to quantify non-answers.

How far is it? Farther than you might think.

How much does it cost? More than you can imagine.

How much time will it take? As much as you can give me.

This always comes up at holidays, trying to follow some ancient, super secret family recipe. It's all laid out in perfect quantities and detail, except for...........some some critical ingredient. Then its..........

Sugar to taste.
Salt to taste.
Vinegar to taste.
Bake until done.

If I may suggest..........if you are one of the keepers of the secrets, do generations of family to follow a favor and clean that up. Put down some kind of defined workable number. 1 cup is a number. 1/2 teaspoon is a number. 45 minutes is a number.

I was on a fire in West Texas years ago and there was an old 2 track road that I THOUGHT would get me around to the other side of the fire. I asked one of the locals "Can I make it all the way through to the other road"? His response was "Usedta coulda"..........

I like vagueness in family recipes, easier to remember.
