I have a 2k acre high fence deer farm I trap going on 3 years now with mb 550’s 4 coiled with no issues. Deer pull right out. I was going to add some fully modified Bridger #3’s and some no bs jrs. All 4 coiled. Will I have issues with them holding deer? I don’t trap during fawning.

The no bs might. I can't speak for the smaller ones, but a friend of mine in Idaho had to release a cow elk from one of their wolf traps. Smaller hoof, smaller trap, but maybe same results? They make some solid steel

Why not stick with what you know will not jeopardize your arrangement

I have stuck with alpha 2 and mb550 for the very reason you mentioned.
It’s nothing for me to have 10-15 deer walking past a set and they all seem curious.

The 2 best things you can do to avoid deer checking out your trap sets is:
1) Not use any kind of urine (They are attracted to the ammonia/salt smell)
2) Not use any kind of lure formulated with either beaver castor or tonquin musk (They are attracted to either)

Remember that you cannot entirely prevent them from checking out your sets, as they are extremely curious animals. Also, for what it's worth, I have never held a deer in a foothold in 28 years of trapping...

Sit with warriors. The conversation is different.

ive never held a deer also in some 35 years of trapping coyotes dont use urine and dont set on the deer trails will keep your traps set longer some good bait and or skunk essence will greatly improve your chances of coyotes

I've heard of the full sized Xtreme holding deer but not the Juniors.

Regardless I think I'd just stick with the 550s.

Yep that’s the plan. I’m wanting a trap with a bigger kill area. I’ll probably use a few Bridger #3 but the k9 extremes are staying home on This property.

I usually have 15 or so deer snap off my 550’s with no issue. Wanted to try out a trap with a bigger kill area.

Contrary to what some “Pro’s” , or internet experts wants to lie to the public about… All traps 1 3/4 size and up that are offset/ reg jaw… 2 coiled 4 coiled… it doesnt matter, are all capable of holding deer, exotics, livestock, etc.

Whoever tells you different is a liar or hasnt trapped very much, under very many conditions.

Use commen sense, avoid heavy/high deer traffic areas, dont use urine, and yes a smaller 2 coiled trap can help minimize this. But it is still possible… so use good judgement, get a rope at the feed store, and keep it in your trapping vehicle. Deer can be roped and choked down (not until they pass out, just take the fight out of them), then let em go and they can go happily & unharmed on there way.

Instead of spreading bull to others… its important to spread awareness/ commen sense on this topic, so trappers can handle themselves professionally out in the field and represent trapping respectfully and responsibly.

Let me also point out that traps like the K9 extreme and Jr that lock up tight and dont alow the jaws to flex will up your odds on holding them.
Also traps with shocksprings, that cushion the pull, also up your percentage as they cant get that solid pull to popout and go.

Traps that are not inside laminated and have a sharp underjaw, will also up your percantage holding deer.

Traps with short chains will also add a percentage to holding deer.

Held a deer in a Bridger 1.75 offset. I would not have believed it if I hadn't seen it.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.
