Need a beaver trapper, got a buddy that deer hunts up there saying he's got horrible beaver problems, it's around the Peducah area, already reached out to Matt Jones but he's too lazy and sorry to trap beaver anymore, lol.

Go to KDFW website. Look under nuisance animal control. They have a list of contacts.

Problem is, most of us are up to our eyeballs in beaver trapping requests...I see beaver trapping as a pay only job in the future because it's getting more problematic. Only so many farms you can trap for hunting rights, etc.

Micah Seavers owns "Seavers Beavers" over in Water Valley and he's ADC, but he knows a ton of trappers, and some might still do it for the pelts....Might be more effective to contact him than the KDFWR for a W. Kentucky specific job.

I believe the Ohio River is close by that city. Mike what you say me and you take a paid vacation and trap some of those nuisance beavers? We could get rich....lol

Lol, we could sure try Mike. Just got that cypress swamp down the road half way under control last season, and the landowner called yesterday asking about a repeat in January.

Might as well, the predator hunting on that farm is top notch. It will work out great with the mink snaring, with just a little overlap of trapping both of them.

Paducah is on the Ohio River near the point where it merges with the Tennessee River after the Ohio has previously merged with the Cumberland River 10 miles upstream...About 15 miles or so farther downstream from Paducah these 3 rivers merge with the Mighty Mississippi near Cairo, Illinois.

Sloughs, swamps, finger lakes & bottomlands galore...Wonder where all these beaver are coming from? grin

When I lived in Paducah and was trapping I was contacted by a guy for exactly the same reason, may even have been the same guy. He took me in to look at the property. The place was totally flooded, water everywhere due to the beaver. We rode 4wheelers for several hundred yards through 2 ft of water on an unmarked gravel road he knew how to stay on. I could see myself in there alone getting off the road and into deeper water, swamping my 4wheeler, getting soaking wet in 15F temps and never making it back to the truck. No thanks. I offered to trap it if he would go in with me every time, but that didn't work for him. The place was full of beaver with scent mounds and dams everywhere you looked.

Hey EdP, You were smart to pass that flooded road job up.....If you remember where the southside Wal-Mart is, there is a floodwall behind it near where 3rd street runs.

There is a shallow slough between that floodwall & the river that the locals call the ducks nest....Well back in the early 80's that slough was beaver central and a great coon location....The deal with the landowner was take out some beaver and catch all the other fur we wanted.

This kid I was trapping with back then was a 120 pound, high strung, tobacco chewing redneck, with a Waylon Jennings graphic on the back glass of his pickup. We were running late to check the beaver traps one morning when my buddy got the great idea to take a shortcut across a shallow flooded backwater field road to the east side of the slough to save time. We were doing fine until we reached the spot where a ford spanned a small creek that normally drained said slough.

You know that old saying "What you don't know won't hurt you"....Well that don't apply to beaver trapping while driving on flooded roads, Lol....We missed the ford, Yep, 7 ft straight to the bottom will really clear your head on a cold morning, and fortunately our waders were always the last thing we put on...I've heard it said you can't swim in cold water, well the heck you can't, the problem is you "can't breathe", so your not going far...Luckily we didn't have very far to go to get mostly out of the backwater.... Think we might have set some kind of speed record getting back up on that road bed before going numb... Then we had to stumble run like a couple drunks for 1/2 mile to a gas station. Lol.

Dumb move for sure, but at 20 those weren't in short supply. wink

haha ky, i think ive forgot most of my 'dumb' moves as a teenager/tweener, lol.

Rough as that stuff sounds up there it's probably best to leave it to the gov trappers that know what they're doing, lol. haha

Not sure what's going to happen in the future, less trappers and more beaver, i been fighting the same spots for over 20 years now and every fall i think once im dead and gone the place will look like no one ever trapped a single beaver in it before the very next year! So i may be winning the battles but in the end the beaver will finally win the war!

Yup, I was closing on 60 at the time and that place was way to dangerous for me to consider. There was nothing within anything like 1/2 mile if you got in trouble.

I'd jump on that beaver job just for access to one or two of those big west KY bucks....but 10 hrs from me would make for a long check day...lol

Contact Micah Seavers of Seavers Beavers and More. His other business is Southern Red's BBQ. He is in southwest Ky about 20 to 30 minutes from Dresden, Tn. Micah is a good man and loves to help kids start trapping.
