do a search on potato rake here on the forum and you will see many posts about what different people use them for from snakes , to beaver , wading , under water snares

Probably have better luck searching for "tater rake" and not "potato rake." Silly yankees, lol.

the internet apparently speaks both for a google search you get the same tools in the same order potato rake vs tater rake

but yes if your looking for a Paul Post he does call his a tater rake https://trapperman.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/7588891/re-holy-hook-batman#Post7588891

potato rake turned up abotu the same number of hits on trapper man as tater rake and I notice the GA fellas call the a Potato rake also in many posts so it is a mix like Pop vs Soda maybe

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Ok, I have a potato rake then, so I'm good there.

Ive had a few tater rakes, but my favorite one has been the Bully Tools cultivator. Ive abused the crap out of it busting holes in the ice and the tines havent bent yet. I try to not carry the spud bar as long as i can when the ice comes on

Has anyone actually driven a significant number of stakes with that curved handled Snor n Neally? It doesn't seem like a practical 2 handed driving handle.

Go cheap at first, Harbor Freight, buy a (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) file with it, learn how to sharpen it. Probably get both for $10.00

I've only been able to do mauls and felling axes since my antique store doesn't have very many smaller single bits. I'm looking for a 2-2.5# head with a 27 inch handle.

I’ve never seen a snow & Neally with a handle like that. I like the Hudson Bay. Their smaller camping axe doesn’t get used much. What ever you get, make sure to get a belt holder for it.
Still haven’t tried a sandvik brush axe. Next on the list.

I have more axes than operators for them.
Saw the guy online selling rehung oldies for $$$
I got excited.
Here he was on tv so his are worth 400 more than mine lol.

If you swing a steel handled tool a lot,
it beats your body much faster than wood.

Wow~ not sure many people know what a Sandvik is but I could be in error.
I have the following in my truck: Sandvik & single bit axe are about 27" in length & the Estwing is 18"

If the eye of the axe is becoming disfigured then you must be doing a lot of pounding with the butt of the axe.If thats the case,,you should get a Council Tool Hudson Bay Axe.2 lb. head with 24" handle.Council Tool also hardens the Poll (butt) of the axe,,so you can pound with it and not disfigure the eye. Most other axe makers dont harden the Poll of the axe head. They also offer the same axe head with just an 18" handle if you want a more compact axe.

4lb council with a 26" handle for falling timber, I like the 3.5 lb head on a 20 inch handle for a trapping/camping/utility axe

I would bet that handle is Hickory. That species often has discoloration ( character) . Ever see high end Hickory cabinets ? Typically every board used is a bit different in shade or color.

It is Hickory and that coloration doesnt bother me in an axe handle as long as the wood grain runs straight up and down.

Treat yourself to that Snow & Nealley. You will love it.I have several different Snow & Nealley axes along with about a dozen other axes.Im kind of an axe and knife nut. crazy

At first I thought wane.
After fitting no, it's like Upstate says.

I have also seen this in Black Cherry wood.

very few spots in the Dakotas I would have ever needed a hatchet - much rather had a pair of good goggles and cotton in my ears
