The A.M. simple trip to shop
Need for milk, eggs, bread took flight
Made me rush to stop
Seems trivial what I had in sight

Road kill lay from night before
Have seen a million, will see million more
This one burdened me with thought
Reason why ? I could not have bought

Death was swift to act
Pool of dried blood shows that
Clint Eastwood's " buzzards have to eat "
Was a feeling didn't fit me with it's beat

What I added to see
Were kits one, two, & three
The sight hit my gut
Like sledge pounding it shut

One was nudging mom with nose
Two was pulling mom's leg at toes
Three was talking as if to say
Mother get up, lets go out of the way

Mom could not move, breathe or see
Regie mortis visited in a hur...ry
Were they old enough to be tough
Fend for themselves now one, two, three

Should have returned by another route
On way back was forced to curse and shout
Another vehicle sent kits one, two, three
To be with mom again ............happily



COMMENT: all animals ...domestic or wild ......harvested by any means or raised by manking for food.....leather....fur....feathers....even medical....is logical.....rational......and necessary for mans existence.......even rodents trapped to stop disease and pestilence.....seems though when I see a road kill.....of which seems to on.the increase......from deer to squirrel........I get a feeling it should not have happened.
