I’m speaking strictly from a dirt trappin perspective here…. But why would a man change traps ?

Contaminated traps, or damaged.
I take a wrench and a long screwdriver to torque them tight.

x2

X3

I use 1/8" quick links for coon on DPs and snares for beaver.

3/16" links for coyote traps.

… no such thing as contaminated in a remake

.. carry tools to fix any damage at the set

… just my dumb opinion

Flipper told me about the J hook tool and it’s a game changer! Wow it is so easy!

Good crunch proof swivels, quick links and you’re good to go. Eric

I never lost a coyote with the heavy j hooks just crimped down. They are one time use only. Bridger swivels used to suck. They're good for one coyote crunch.

I run a 3/16 quick link on the last swivel J hook clamped down so it will not come off.

Then if I need to pull traps for a few days I just open quick link and remove from earth anchor.

Most of my earth anchors now are wolf fang types with 16-18" of cable and a 4-6 inch piece of chain on the end

Right or wrong that is the way I do it

I am a heathen. I double about ten inches of tie wire and use it to attach a drag. All my traps have a double stake swivel and a regular swivel at the end of the trap chain. Gives me options. J hooks are not welded. Never lost a critter because of wire or j hook failure. I do look j hooks over regular. Never had one try to open back up when I went to the crunch proof sold by MTP. When I see one start to open it gets changed to crunch proof

In multiple stress tests of all the above.
The cable components failed first.
The new #6 J hooks failed last.

The ace hrdw guy and mr gadget may disagree.

EDIT, more damage happens from pulling traps in
Pa. conditions than the mighty furbearer.

J-hooks for canines for me. And a J-hook tool for quick and easy trap changes...traps that need changing from being flattened by farmer's tractors not contamination...

Love,

Lugnut

PS Quick links for beaver trapping connections.

Eh...wot?

In the water, you cannot beat a trigger snap on a drowner slide. On land, I like a quick link.
