Check with Glacier Wear. They are in Maine. Many many years of making hats.
I would let them do the whole process - tanning and making the hat. Some hat makers don’t/wont with tans they are not familiar with. If there is one person on here that knows the best choice, it would be Nancy. I would strongly encourage you to take her advice. Also, welcome aboard and watch out for the Southern folks on here.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Hello trappers. I'm somewhat new to the trapping game, and this is my first season being able to really run a line and learn. I'm considering this first season a learning experience, and I have acquired a few good muskrats.
Now I'm wondering where to find someone who makes a good trapper's hats with muskrat? As well, should I be tanning the hides for a hat, or is that usually up to the maker?
Any and all advice is welcome! Thanks in advance.
As well, thanks for letting me into the group! Happy Trappin'! I encourage you to go full circle with your trapping and do one yourself. I don't know why but for some reason muskrats are difficult to home tan, for me anyways, so I recommend sending them to be tanned. The actual making of a hat is time consuming but not impossible. Plenty of tutorials on how to do it.
