Sorry DWC, but its very hard to fight against the administrative state. They hold most of the high value cards. My advise, and this is bittersweet, is to start looking another 10 miles out (and maybe a closer commuter drive to sin city for your wife). Sometimes, distance is a generational buffer.
P.S. I don't get to see deer walking through my creeklet anymore with another 80 houses behind me but we live with what we live with. Maybe someday I'll get to retire to a lesser known lake away from anyone I know and live and die there.
Best wishes!!

That sucks. I hope they don't annex you.
A lot of cities, that want to grow, will try to force property owners, whose property they absorb, to sell their acreage through taxes.
The city of Piqua, Ohio did that to a farmer. They also forced him to pay for sidewalk and curbs around his entire property. He was only allowed to build one approach to his farm. He put up.A huge sign that reads "Piqua Protocol, Bend Over And Take It".

Best wishes!! Ya. Id love to move. Locked in under 3 percent on the mortgage and everything comparable, especially with todays interest rates and stupid prices, makes my payment a solid 800-1000 more. I’ll never understand these “small towns” chomping at the bit to grow to the next big thing. NonPCfed, you can probably guess where I live. The county seat that wants more than anything to be equal with the biggie. I misspoke. The people in the county seat dont want it, just the petty little local government “officials”.

Your governor keeps sending out pist cards begging people to move to South Dakota, results are predictable. Most small town politicans are eager to grow their town, they're people persons, us introverts just want to be left alone and we leave township, city and county planning to people persons who just want to see more people and development Hit the nail on the head with this comment.

Annexation can be fought but can also be expensive and time consuming, my understanding is the owner of the property needed to request their property be annexed, at least it was emminent domained

Pick me Donald, for anything. Yes she has brought a lot of people here. Conservatives sheep are the same as liberal sheep. Ive talked to people who have flat put said they moved here because of her. She leaves and we are left with them.

I love the state and most of the people but it's changed dramatically. I've had multiple customers sell 500,000 to 1 million dollar houses here and move to SD all at the invite of an attention seeking governor (yes she's better than my governor but that doesn't make her good)

I love the state and most of the people but it's changed dramatically. Yes, it has, and the usual root causes are at play. Money talks and who know what walks. I don't do much hunting anymore because it just wasn't my growing culture to fork over Uncle Bens to get hunting access. I know for some Tman members, such as the Southern gentlemen, leasing land and belonging to hunt clubs for a fee is no big deal but it is for some of us up here. It started off with the best pheasant land in the late 1970s and has moved to the better deer hunting land as well. So much of the farmland may be owned by someone (usually some old lady perhaps in or out of a nursing home) but its farmed by some big operation who could care less about hunters-- unless the Uncle Bens come out!! I suspect most of that coin is never recorded as income unless they are running a "pheasant preserve". I'll take the crumbs from the public land and some occasional landowner who isn't totally focused on making money off of me. And then there's also concerns about liability by some landowners in letting in other than family to hunt. Insurance worries flavor many land use decisions around the country. Remember, the U.S. has 25% of all the attorneys in world.

Most of these annexations are built around generating $$ for greedy city governments....I live 5 miles from a town of 2,000 that has annexed an area almost as large as that of Louisville, KY.
The annexation borders are irregular and designed to cherry pick industry & businesses right along with any homeowners caught up in all that.
Annexations, imminent domain, etc. really leave me cold...It sure doesn't feel like freedom, and why aren't the ones initiating these ploys ever effected?

This country had gained 120 million people in the last 40 years. I don't like it as much as anyone else but it's the reality of the world we live in.
If towns don't grow they die. The one I'm living in is a prime example.

Only thing growing in my small town is the cemetery. Times are changing and for introverts it is an uneasy feeling. On the other hand I dislike seeing small towns disappearing. A bittersweet change.
To OP pretty long row to hoe if you are going to fight the annex. I would look for another place and maybe you could sell that piece of ground you have and make some money on it.
