Probably been asked before but is it legal to transport a suppressor through Canada?

Section 84(1) of the Criminal Code prohibits the possession, import, export, or transfer of a suppressor without a license... and the license is not possible to obtain for 99.9% of people.

Just happy to be here.

Suppressers save your hearing and if you're shooting at multiple animals coming to a call, it confuses them, especially if it's at night with an IR scope. Boco certainly has a bunch of all this equipment, since Canada doesn't enforce the law on trappers. Maybe that's why Canucks say EH! all the time, deaf from shooting without suppressers. Just kidding!!

Screw Canadian gun laws. Only thing that they are helping are lessons learned, for us Doodles.

And the only way to stop it is to get permission from the government and pay a large tax.

Probably easier to ship it to AK or wherever you're going. Doesn't anyone watch the Canadian Border Protection show?....LOL
Lot of Americans getting caught with a pistol in the camper or glove box. They just get turned around, no big deal.

I would say it would be easier to fly with it, as long as you don’t land in Canada. Cans can go declared, just like a firearm with any legal possessor, locked in a case.

Any advise you get here will just kinda point you in the right direction. Don't roll the dice with something that could ruin a trip stuck in the clink for a prohibited devise.........that being worst case Ontario..lol
Call CBSA.

Just make sure it’s attached to the gun and the gun is loaded, and you’ll be fine!

Definitely not. Canada is beautiful (albeit expensive) to drive through, but the hassle is significant. And AK can be very desolate in places, but Canada is HUGE and EMPTY. It's nothing to drive 8 hours without seeing a town of any sort.

Most Americans are not aware that Canada is much, much, more bureaucratic than the United States. And they have no sense of humor about it at all.
Kind of sad. You would think a country in a geographical place like that would be pretty easy going; not so.

The phrase “strangulation from regulation” came from Canada

Think you’re underestimating the reaction by CBSA there shakey. A handgun is restricted in Canada. That would get you turned around as you stated. Suppressor is a prohibited device which could land you in a lot more trouble if they decide to view it as smuggling a prohib into the country. Those border agents don’t play and don’t have a sense of humour.

True. Which is why I said it ain’t worth it to roll the dice and potentially wind up in the clink. I’m sure we all know a few CBSA employees, I’ve got a couple cousins here in Mb & one in BC sitting in the shacks. All I can say is, if you’re coming up through MN or ND, go through Tolstoi…lol.
Heading into the US has alway been a pleasant experience, conversations alway get side tracked when I say what I’m doing there…lol

Keep in mind, these links are dated and aren’t updated to any changes for a loooong time.
