Anyone in Northeast NM or Colorado Springs know of a shop that sells real 4F and 2 F black powder? Got a beautiful handmade flintlock coming with me after Christmas but I can't afford to buy 5 pounds of powder and the HazMat fees to get it online. Headibg to CO Springs Dec. 1 for work if there's a place between Taos and there, I'd love to shop in person.

any friends who also muzzle load ?

also you can run 3fg in the pan and the main charge , this limits what you need to stock

getting a bulk order with friends and breaking it down to reduce hazmat is a good way to go.

Not a direct answer to your question, but if you sign up for Powder Valley's emails they do free hazmat fairly often so that makes your BP purchase a little less expensive. I shoot flintlocks and just use 3F for both main charge and in the pan and it works just fine and that is what was originally done was using the same powder for both. The key to good ignition with the flintlock is a good flint properly positioned in the jaws and square to the frizzen. Also the flint has to be maintained to keep a good sharp edge to throw a good spark by flaking part of the edge off after several shots. I always put a fresh flint in my gun when hunting season starts to eliminate one potential problem.
